I have been reading everyone else's threads about theatre and now I have a question. Our family of 4 DH and I,Lil B(9Yrs) and DS 17 years old will be going to either Altar Boyz at the New World Stages/Stage 4...two rows from stage 79.00 a ticket..Off Broadway or have a chance to see the Wedding Singer at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. For 111.00 a ticket and about 18 rows back from the stage.(Can we see anything from there?Would it be better to go to Altar Boyz? What's New World Stages like? Any answers will be appreciated,Thanks.

I would go for the seats two rows from the stage. You won't be sorry.

And, I would pass on the opportunity to pay $444 for seats at the far rear of the orchestra for a show that isn't all that good.

Above answers have pretty well covered it, except for what the New World Stages are like. It is a wonderful smallish, new style space. Stadium seating so you can see better, a funky interior -- more like audience seating for Saturday Night Live, for example. You will hear and see well from every seat, unlike 18 rows back in the Hirschfield orchestra.

anamaria, any Off-Broadway theatre is going to put you closer to the action and performers on stage.

The terms Broadway Theatre and Off-Broadway Theatre refer to its size (and therefore, its payscale for performers), not its location.

An Off-Broadway theatre can have no more than 499 seats nor fewer than 100. Any theatre with 500 or more seats is a Broadway theatre and any that seats fewer than 100 is Off-Off-Broadway.

As for Altarboys, it's a fun show with lots of fast-paced jokes, but can be on the loud side at times. -I know, that's a sign I'm getting old.
