The Outer Banks of NC

Putting together a girls reunion and we want to go to the Outer Banks the end of September for 2 weeks. What towns offer great restaurants and things to do both day and evening. Which area of the Outer Banks is best for finding a house directly on the ocean? Which agency would you recommend to work with in finding a vacation rental?

I liked Rodanthe as a location best for its beaches. It's a fairly quiet town, not really huge on nightlife (a couple good restaurants and small pubs), but you could head to a more heavily populated town (Nags Head is just north of Rodanthe) for more dining/nightlife/shopping options.

Rodanthe has a great selection of homes that are ocean front, and because the strip of land it sits on is so narrow, even an "ocean side" home will still give you some decent ocean views.

One other thing, regardless where you stay in the Outer Banks, since it's the end of September you may want to protect yourself with trip insurance as it's getting into Hurricane Season. You're on a narrow piece of land with water on both sides of you, so it's not the kind of place you'd want to ride out a storm.

I would recommend you check out the area from Kitty Hawk to Nags Head. At the end of September crowds will not be as issue and this area will offer plenty for you ladies to do. You should not have a problem finding a vacation home on the ocean. There are many great companies down here. I assist in running an Outer Banks website that offers a vacation home search. http://therealouterbanks.com/index.p...alty&Itemid=87

That may assist you. A couple of other local companies are Kitty Hawk Rentals, Joe Lamb, and Stan White. All these companies offer homes throughout the Outer Banks.

We've stayed in Kitty Hawk, Nag's Head and South Nag's Head and preferred SNH so that's where we landed for about 6 years. It's far enough away from the crowds (though that might not be such a problem in September) but close enough to 'stuff' to be convenient. We used Joe Lamb Real Estate and always had a house on the oceanfront.
