The cold is getting even to me - worst Feb
My favorites seasons are fall, spring (we get about 2 weeks a year), winter and summer (I just can't stand heat - anything over 80 is hell for me).
So I usually love winter - talking long walks in the brisk temps with small snow flurries - everything crispy and clean.
But now it appears that this may be the coldest Feb on record. Tonight we are supposed to have air temps of about 1 (farenheit) with windchill index of about 20 below zero. This is TOO cold to play outdoors. And we've had snow every couple of days. Nothing like Boston (I feel so sorry for you people) but it's often enough and snow enough that many of the sidewalks stay slippery and there are mounds of dirty ice all along the streets - so you really have to cross at the corners - or clamber over the lumps of frozen snow.
I can't wait for spring - maybe this year we'll get 3 weeks.

We are right outside of Boston..Route 495 and you have NO idea how bad it is.. cold, roofs that need to be shoveled off, roofs collapsing, ice dams, large icicles hanging down..mounds of snow that we don't think will melt until the END of April and frozen and burst pipes. Shortage of ice melt, snow blowers and roof rakes.. Oh yes… a transportation absolutely crippled. So don't complain about the cold and the bit of snow you have.. I'd rather be in the Bahamas or wherever too.. or whoever today isn't h aving freezing temperatures down south..

Amen ParrotMom, Nothing worse then waking up warm and cozy under a down comforter, thankful the roof didn't collapse during the night, only to look out the window and again see vehicles that need to for the umpteenth time cleared off and a few inches of new snow shoveled. I suggest all city dwellers to invest in a sturdy pair of goulashes/wllingtons as when the thaw comes you will be walking thru rivers of icy slush for weeks.

Yes, I do think you should have sympathy for us Boston area folks. Huge snowbanks, collapsing roofs, etc. And especially sorry for those hoping to get to work or whatever via auto or rail. Us oldsters mostly just stay put. Son and family now in Williamsburg timeshare and temp there is 17 degrees.

In the DC area, there have been cold days. They are saying today might be the coldest but Sunday felt much colder to me (Weather Channel showed 9 degrees all morning and it got up to 17) but it was very windy so felt colder. It was painful to be outside.
People have been complaining about it since December really. But those people complain about the winter every year. They are not outdoor enthusiasts who are missing out on anything, they are just whiners who might have to wait for a bus or on a train platform for a few minutes and walk a block or two. Not a true hardship by any stretch but that doesn't stop them.

I do have much empathy for those of you in the cold and snow. I grew up with that in the prairies of Canada and I do not miss it.
Now I am in Oregon- and we have no snow, I have been mowing the grass, the daffodils are up and the plum tree in the back yard is in bloom. It is pretty crazy. Feels good now but come summer when we have no snow melt it won't be so great.

Tonight it is supposed to get down into the high forties here in South Florida and for a lot of people here that is "cold." Fortunately, it won't last long (it never seems to). Today on the beach it is in the 60"s and people are still in shorts (and jackets).

Yes, it's cold in Florida today--a hard freeze predicted for the northern portions of the Tampa Bay area--but it will be 70-75 by Saturday. I feel sorry for visitors who only have today and tomorrow at the beach, but as Dukey says, it never lasts long.

Today it was about 25 degrees while I was out doing visits. It felt so balmy in contrast to past weeks that I left my coat open.
Between holidays and work-from-home days because of horrific weather, I have not worked one normal schedule work week since mid-December.

We have friends from Brookline arriving tonight in Richmond to enjoy warm weather.
It has been colder all day today in Richmond than in Boston. It will be -3 when they arrive. Tomorrow it will be 21 but then 38 on Saturday and 55 on Sunday. That's the difference.
It's like summer in Boston. It gets just as hot in Boston as in Richmond, but then you get a break where an August day is 65 and life without air conditioning is livable again and you have to take a sweater to Fenway Park.
But this year has indeed bern exceptional, new record exceptional.

Lucky, I don't have to be out, except to pick up neighbor child from school. I know cold from growing up near Lake Michigan and living in Boston for a few years, but I am having difficulty coping with the cold, even here in Baltimore where it is nothing at all like you have further North. Hope all of you can stay warm during the next to come.

My cats usually put their face or one foot outside to see if there is a possibility they might want to go out, but not today. They have snuggly igloo shaped beds and all four have stayed burrowed in the beds today, not even walking around the house.
