The bridge from Trenton, ME, to Mount Desert Island
OK, this is a weird question, I know. My husband and kids and parents and I are going to Maine for a week in late July. We'll be staying in a cottage near Acadia National Park.
Here's the problem. My mom has a serious bridge phobia. She's freaking about what the bridge is like. She hates the causeway/bridge to Sanibel Island, for example, and I think it doesn't even feel like you're on a bridge.
Anyway, can anyone tell me what the bridge is like? Two lanes? Four lanes? I can't find a photo anywhere.
Help!

It is really a small causeway, hardly over water at all and not high. Its not too long either. Go to Google Maps, type in trenton, ME, and then look at the satellite aerial photo.
BTW, if she's freaked about bridges, make sure not to go up Route 1 and over the Penobscot Narrows bridge near Bucksport. It is a new bridge and has a high observation tower. But even the bridge itself is very high over the river. Or you can just tell her to close her eyes. Its a beautiful view but you should know about it ahead of time. The alternative route is 95 to just south of Bangor and then Rout 3 to Ellsworth. A shorter drive, too.
