Terlingua Chili Cookoff / Marfa lights

Hi. Will be in this general area in November and am considering choosing dates that will include the Terlingua Chili Cookoff. Has anyone been? Can those who don't compete still come and taste? Are there other activities? Also, wondering if anyone has seen the mysterious Marfa "lights" and what time of day and location you would recommend. I am considering the Antelope Lodge in Alpine for accomodations. Would appreciate feedback on that or any other recommended lodging. Thanks for any help out there on this area. (These places are in Texas btw).

Of course those who don't compete in the cookoff can come and taste! You can drink beer, too. Terlingua is a BLAST! Reserve your rooms ASAP because it does get crowded downt here and there aren't a lot of places to stay. The Gage Hotel in Marathon, TX is also very nice.

Sounds very fun. Thanks for the info Christi. Hopefully between Marfa/Alpine/Marathon, etc. we can find a place to stay!

I'm guessing you can also stay in Lajitas. I've only been there once, but I think there is a hotel/motel there.
