Tent Camping San Diego area in August
Does anyone have any recommendations for places to camp in the San Diego are in mid-August? We would want to be able to get into San Diego to see the zoo/Sea World and other tourist sites without too much hassle. Has anyone done this?
Thanks

There are 2 public campgrounds on the beach in north san diego county - south carlsbad state beach and one in Cardiff whose name I forget. These are state run campgrounds. I don't know about how soon you can make reservations or if it is already too late. Zoo/Sea WOrld are only a short freeway drive away

The one in Cardiff is San Elijo State Beach. During the summer, both require reservations. Info is at http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=21491.

I'd stay here.

It's mostly RV's but I have seen tent campers. And very central location - San Elijo would probably be more one with nature but not as centrally located.

check out this site http://www.rv.net/forum/
it's geared to rvs but you can get a lot of great information on good campgrounds in the area.
