Tell me about Bethany Beach, DE

Hi all,

Our girls trip has been set for this year. We'll be staying at my friend's vacation home in Bethany Beach in early June.

I'm sure she has her favorite restaurants, etc, but I would love to hear any Fodorite recommendations about Bethany and surrounding areas.

Restaurants? Day Spas? Other attractions?

Thanks!

Haven't been to Bethany in decades. However, although it is not as high-dollar and old money as Rehoboth, it is a step or two up from Ocean City, which is the vacationland of choice of the younger unwashed of Baltimore and Washington. In early June, Ocean City will be filled with the high school grads of the state while Bethany will have very few of them. One warning is that the water temperature in Bethany will still be shy of 70 degrees in early June. Pretty cold.

You can't miss with Nicola's Pizza in Rehoboth. Get a Nico-Boli, you will become addicted. For a great buffet, go to the Bonfire on about 70th Street in Ocean City. It's as good as you can get.

It may be over twenty years, but I do have fond memories of Nicola's. Grotto's is very good pizza as well.

We went there last year with our two kids. It is very quiet, sedate, pretty, as compared to either Rehoboth or Ocean City. We rented a condo in a complex with a pool, but saw several homes in the area. There is a small boardwalk -- it will take you an hour to shop it. The beach is nice.

Can't remember most of the places we ate. Had hard-shell crabs at a great place -- not much to look at -- but the food was fab. Wish I could remember the name!
