Tacoma, WA Weather in August

We have family coming from Germany in August. They will stay with us in San Francisco and then go to other relatives in Tacoma for two weeks.

The nights in S.F. cool down and I was wondering about the nights in Tacoma. We will be telling them to bring warm jackets, but since they will also be in warmer climates, night time included in another part of Northern Calif. we didn't want them to have to pack as if they were spending the winter in Alaska.

Bottom line... Average Tacoma temps in mid to late August.

Thanks,

Nina

Daytime in the 70-80's, evenings it may cool down to the 60's, but not likely below.

August is the best month to visit western Washington, IMO.

Thanks. I was hoping that the nights in Tacoma would be a little cooler. It would take up a lot of space in their luggage to bring winter clothing for just a few days in San Francisco.

We are planning to take them to Alcatraz for the night tour, approx. 6:30PM - 10PM, and it will probably be pretty cold and foggy.

lovesadventure, yep, you've got that right. August and September absolutely the best time to be there. Nina, unless they hit unseasonable weather, they'll be fine with a sweater/light jacket at night.

When we do the Alcatraz night tour, even though we are all very different sizes - I'm 4"10", and the mother is 5'9", I guess I can scrounge up warm things for the two females and DH can do likewise for the father and the son.

This site has average temperatures for locations across the world:

The temps do seem a little lower than what I would expect. I checked Tacoma, Seattle, and Melbourne (I was there in January).
