Surfing school for 8 year old

I'm planning to get my granddaughter surfing lessons. I've been trying to get an email response from Aloha Girls (since my gd is into "girl power" at the moment) but without luck. I may just call when I get there but I hate to wait until the last minute (we're there next week). Does anyone have any other suggestions? What about the Hawaiian Fire Department surfing instructors - any ideas?
Thanks!

Where in Hawaii will you be? My daughter (much older than your granddaughter, but there were younger kids in the "class") took lessons at Kiahuna in Kauai and we thought they were great.

Maui Surfer Girls is just fine- but it's on Maui. You don't state what island she will be on.

If she justs want to learn to surf, not a week long activity, the Beachboys on Waikiki are very good with kids. Lessons run about $40 for a two hour session. There are about 3 competing stands near the "Duke" statue & police station in the middle of Waikiki. Ask for rates at each, and you might also ask to let your CD talk to the instructor before you commit to see if she likes him or her. Make sure she takes a rash guard or at least a soft tee shirt for the lesson so she doesn't get chafed.

At my DD's class, they gave them a rash shirt. Do make sure the backs of her legs are very well covered in sunscreen!
