"Suite" LasVegas!

Hi----DH and I are planning a trip to Vegas and we'd like to know what "strip" hotels have the nicest suites. We won't get comped 'cus we're not gamblers, so we're just going to have to lay out the bucks. We don't want to spend more than $400 a night. We're not looking for a HUGE suite (there are only 2 of us and we won't be entertaining), but we want plush, cushy, and perhaps a cool bathroom with a whirlpool. I've checked out the websites, and the pix on many of them are not very clear. Anybody out there have any favorites or suggestions?

THE Hotel is all suites and meets all of your criteria except the whirlpool tub. It does have a flat panel TV in the bathroom, glass shower, and soaking tub.

Caesars has many suites in the older towers that you could probably get <$400 with a whirlpool but they're not as nicely appointed as the rooms in THE Hotel.

In my opinion, THE Hotel has the best rooms for the $$$ on the strip, I haven't stayed at Wynn, though.

Check with the Luxor, their junior suites have jacuzzi tubs that are right up against the windows, makes for a great view. Your best bet would be to call the hotels 1-800 number and "speak" with a room res person, because they can give you accuarte details of the room and alos give rates.

I hope you're planning a mid week rather than a weekend trip. Your lodging dollars will go much further.

Just FYI as far as soaking tubs go--I found the Venetian to be the most ergonomically correct!

The Wynn has the nicest rooms in Vegas, without a doubt, and you don't need a "suite" to get a large room with an incredibly large bathroom.

I suggest you check out the Wynn.

Enjoy!

The Venetian minisuites are very nice, and the Luxor pyramid suites (at corners of the pyramid) are often a good value (this past weekday price was $120/nt)--but the whirlpool tubs are far removed from the bathroom (maybe you'd like that?)
Remember, the weekday prices can be more than 1/2 less than the weekends!

I second Gekko advice about the Wynn..
Remember new in Vegas is everything..
The resort rooms at the Wynn are huge and depending on when you go you can get a great deal for under $200-$300 and since your not gamblers, the place is stunning with alot to do without leaving the Hotel..
The beds are heavenly and the 400 count duvet cover and the huge bathroom with TV and the flat screen..
$400 is alot of money to pay and if you do pay it make sure you get what you pay for...
I have heard good things about The Hotel too..

Best to you..

Wow, thanks everyone for all the tips! I'll have to do a search on THE Hotel...I've never heard of it! The room/suite pix for Caesars didn't impress me at all....they really looked kind of dated (?) The Mirage suites looked very nice.......has anyone stayed in a suite there? I was particularly interested in their Petite suite, but the hotel said they're all full for the days we want to be there. The Luxor and Wynn sound good, altho I kind of wanted to stay more "mid-strip".....but if the rooms are good, and the price is right.....I might change my mind on the location. Thanks again for your help!

I would have called the Wynn north strip, not mid, but with the walkway/bridge, it's a little closer to TI and Bellagio action than say, Luxor or Mandalay. However, the last 3 south (Luxor, Mandalay, Excalibur) are linked by interior walkways and a (not the) tram; once you get to Excalibur (take tram II from Mandalay and stay on to avoid walking through casino), you can walkway to NYNY and MGM easily (or Tropicana).

Colette, your assessment of Caesar's for those rooms is spot on. They have new towers, Augustus and earlier, Palace, which have beautiful suites but $400 might be a stretch.

FYI, THE Hotel is part of the Mandalay Bay property and you can use their pool but it's a separate hotel in the sense that it has it's own check-in desk, and staff, shares the parking garage though.

In Vegas you probably won't spend enough time in the room to make it worth paying for a "suite". Save the money for some great meals or a great show and go for a "Resort Room" upgrade at the Aladdin. Great location across from the Bellagio, huge bathroom with separate tub and shower and two vanities (not sure if the tub is a whirlpool?). Rate and special promotions will depend on the time of year that you're visiting which you didn't mention. And weeknights will get you a better deal than weekends usually.

I agree w/ Joe. I've had a JR Suite in Vegas and was not all that impressed. In addition, I've stayed at a good majority of the Hotels and have never been wowed by any. Vegas, like Disney World, wants you out spending money and not "lounging" in your room. Just to give you an idea on what I mean, - most the rooms I've stayed at only offer basic cable (no HBO, etc). If you're a big time roller / "A whale" than it's probably a whole different story. I'd check on a room at the Venetian, again nice but not wow, and see some shows (O, Mystere, etc)or eat well (lot of great restaurants).

Have fun!

I really appreciate all your info. We're doing this trip very LAST MINUTE, (next week)so am having troubles deciding what hotel, should I book a flight/hotel pkg, or should I book flight and hotel separately, etc.etc. Flights EVERYWHERE are SOOOOO expensive, and of course our ff miles are out of the question at this late date. So we decided to do Vegas, and we actually DO want to spend time in our room.....that's why I'm looking for a suite. The nicest room we've ever booked in LV was at the Bellagio, (standard room)and we got a deal there 'cus it had just opened. Now that it's more established, we can't afford it. Still wondering if anyone has stayed in a Mirage suite?? is it worth the extra bucks? Now that I know the Wynn is more "mid-strip", I think I'll check into that also. Hubby hates hot weather, so thought we'd get a nice room with lots of amenities, (one being a/c) then he'll read and relax, I'll relax for an hour, and then do a little exploring, but probably without him......so wanted to keep it mid-strip. So many decisions.......but fun decisions!! Thx again.

Colette - I know you already booked your room, but I thought I'd through in my 2 cents anyway. I stayed at the Mirage in August of '04 with some friends. We booked a 2 bedroom suite but got upgraded to a penthouse suite, so I'm not sure how it will compare to what you get, though I read somewhere that Mirage suites are among the best available to regular people. Anyway, the suite was very plush and spacious. Everything in the room was in great shape and we found the furniture was very comfortable. One of the bathrooms had a jacuzzi tub so hopefully you'll have one in your room too. The service we got at the hotel was great. They even had a car to take us to and from the airport at no extra cost. I'm not sure if this is for all suites but remember we only booked a 2 bedroom. We also liked the pool a lot, and loved the location on the strip.
You've probably already checked it out but the Mirage web site has a few good pics of each of their suites as well as a floor plan of each type. Hope you enjoy your stay and I look forward to the trip report.

Bostonguy.....THANK YOU so much!! I hadn't heard yet from anyone who had stayed in a Mirage suite....so it was great to hear from you! We booked a 1-BR Tower Suite and it DOES look very nice on the website, (how lucky you were to get that Pres. suite!!!) but I've been feeling wary 'cus I read someplace that the Mirage was doing some renovating in the public areas of the hotel, but the ROOM renovations aren't to begin until next year. That got me fretting about the quality of the beds, the sheets, the furniture, etc. (I know I'm sounding a bit anal here, but when I spend over $70 a night for a room, I get that way) Also, the suite link mentioned a choice of "four color schemes". I'm not in love with the bright gold/burgundy colors they show on their deluxe rooms pix, and I guess that color scheme is also one of the 4 color choices for the suite. The suite pix on the site show a beige, as well as a light green. Those looked inviting to me.....but I think I'd like to avoid spending 5 nites in the splendor of gold, burundy & velvet. If you care to comment on that aspect of your suite, (and if you even noticed!) I'd love to hear from you again. Thanks again Bostonguy! P.S. Did you happen to rent a cabana by the pool? Like you, we'll be there in August, and I'm thinking it may be the one and only way I can get my DH down to the pool in 100 degree weather. Just wondering if the cabana can keep ANYONE "cool by the pool" in those temps!!??

Colette - I've been trying to remember decor of the room in more detail but am not coming up with much. I remember when I stayed there I thought that the picture of the room online looked exactly like the room we were in. However the room used in the 360 degree view looks different from what I stayed in. The furniture had that antique look to it possibly with a floral print on the couch. I can't remember what color the walls were. As for the pool, we usually just sat on the edge of the pool and had a few drinks sowe didn't get a cabana or even a chair. From the cabanas that I have seen at a few vegas properties, they may keep you a bit cooler but probably not like being in a room with AC. Most of the protection will come from not being in direct sunlight. Also, at some hotels, the cabanas had misters on them which probably helps a bit too, but I can't rember what Mirage ones were like. Sorry I can't be more informative but feel free to ask any other questions.

I think you'll enjoy the suite at the Mirage as well as the overall hotel location.

Now, don't go to TripAdvisor for reviews about Strip hotels....just go and make your own decisions and have a good time.
