We have a large group staying over Thanksgiving. I have read good things about the Doubletree - however I am concerned about 1 thing. Is the bedroom have a separate door from the living area? It's a real concern with kids.

I have looked at Washington Suites also which looks like a bigger room with a full kitchen. But I think the walk to the Metro is a bit longer (could be a problem in November).

I would appreciate anyone's input.

You could call the Doubletree.

As for the Washington Suites, the walk is a little further than the Doubletree but is arguably a more convenient neighborhood. It's still only a 5-7 minute walk to the Metro at most.

I'd add that the Circulator bus that goes from Georgetown to Union Station is available near the Washington Suites.

My family and I stayed at the Doubletree Suites at George Washington University, and there was a door between the living area and the bedroom. You might also check with the GWU Inn just across the street as well, which also has one bedroom suites available. Both are a short walk to the Foggy Bottom metro station.

MOST Doubletrees have a door - but some do not. So you should call.

Beware of porn on master bedroom TV. (Just in case you have unsupervised kids.) Two Doubletrees I've stayed in "offered" that (free). Ick.

Is there some kind of suite hotel in Old Alexandria near the subway station? I sort of recall that, but can't think of what it is. (Embassy Suites?) It's a really nice area though.

We stayed at a Sheraton Suites in Old Alexandria once that was nice, but not terribly conveniently located. Just a thought.

Recently stayed at the Washington Suites which we felt was a little dated but a very good value. I think that there was a door between the rooms and, as you note, there was a kitchen. We thought that the location was fine although we didn't use the metro. Its a nice neighborhood. They have parking and there are other garages nearby.
