Come on up to Niagara Falls, Niagara on the Lake, and Toronto... Fly into Buffalo and stay at the Fallsview Casino and Resort... Visit the Niagara Wine region.. see some plays at the www.shawfest.com and finish with some shopping and sightseeing in Toronto...

Being a local, I submit the Northwest. Typical weather on the Olympic Peninsula is what you are looking for. Check out the San Juan Islands. A couple of links that may be helpful

I've been to almost all 50 states-= the Upper Peninsula is the LAST place I'd send you.
I'm from Texas too and totally understand your goal--we do it every year too--usually to Colorado or Montana.
My vote is Seattle or the Oregon coast--we went last year and when it was 100 in Portland, it was never over 80 on the Oregon Coast, just a couple hours drive west.

I looked into upstate New York and we are having trouble finding a rental for less than a week or oen that does not start on a Sunday. After hearing about the temps on the Oregon coast I think I will look there for possible rentals. Is there a specific area that you would recommend, Connie?

Orcas makes a good suggestion. Also look at http://www.oregon.gov/OPRD/PARKS/rustic.shtml
Assuming a rental car and flights to Portland Airport, you have a good chice of coast towns with plenty of scenary, seafood, Oregon wines and relaxation anywhere from Astoria south to California. Camping is probably not in the equation but check out the State campground link above and consider the Yurts! Check this link too

apseals,
I just topped an old thread about Park City, Utah from ebtraveler. Your vacation hopes sound just like hers. I had the pleasure of meeting ebtraveler, her husband and their friends and we had a wonderful dinner last Sept. in Park City during their visit.
Maybe the thread will give you some ideas. Have fun!

Again, thanks so everyone for their ideas. We can't go to all mentioned of course but will bookmark the thread for the coming summers. I think we have settled on the Oregon Coast. We are working on finding a nice vacation rental so if anyone has had a good experience with one or with a certain company, please pass it on!

Love Maine!
I want to rent a home in Kennebunkport for a month in August.
Eat lobster rolls all day, swim and sail and then dine on blueberry pie and more lobster.
Maine is one of the prettiest places.
Cape Cod is another thought too.

If you have settled on the Oregon Coast, I would definitely go with Cannon Beach...it's very picturesque and has a wonderful state park north of the town that offers incredible views and walking trails. Also, Cannon Beach has cute shops and restaurants. I would even build in a night or two in Portland, which is a very walkable city if you stay in the right spot and offers different shopping areas (23rd and also the Pearl District). My girlfriends and I did a weekend in Portland recently (we all live in Seattle) and it was great fun. There is a streetcar system in the downtown core that is either free or low-cost depending on where you hop on. Have fun!
