Hi everyone

Please put your thinking caps on and help out my ongoing search for a new tropical destination. We have visited Hawaii a lot and our preference is Kauai in a condo on the beach. (so more rural, non-Waikiki-like). Have also been to several Caribbean destinations. But we really want to try somewhere new next year. Any suggestions?

Our requirements are
Ocean
Beaches
Palm trees
Good weather (i.e. not the rainy season) in January or February
Would try an all inclusive for one week, but then would need another week somewhere else--don't think we could handle an all-inclusive for 2 weeks.
We haven't been considering Europe, because for that long of a trip from the west coast, two weeks doesn't seem to be enough time.
South Pacific? Never been.

So if you throw out some ideas of places you have visited and loved, I'll have a little focus for my search.

Yes, perhaps Panama.
Loved it in the early '70s when lived there for a USN Tropical Medicine School (which helped me all my professional days and now retired life here in Mexico) and when revisited in '03, but crossed it off my list of places to retire.

I don't know of any places in Europe that would fit your criteria, but I wouldn't rule it out based on only having 2 weeks. We live in the bay area and went to Germany last summer for 2 weeks. It was a nice length trip and we will definitely be going back. It would be nice to have more time, of course, but we didn't feel that 2 weeks was too short for the time it took to get there. I think SFO to Frankfurt direct is 12 or 13 hours - only a couple hours longer than SFO to Tokyo.

Costa Rica! The prettiest place I've ever been.

Agree with CR, but not a retirement area as all the (financial) incentives are gone and the cost of living is high.
