Suggestion needed for wine tour company in Portland, Oregon
Hi
My boyfriend wil be in Portland, Oregon for work for one week. He would like to take 1 or 2 days to do some wine tasting. Would anyone have any suggestions on a company that does great wine tasting tours in the Portland, Oregon? Also any suggestions on great restaurants?
Thanks

Here's a website that might be useful: http://www.winesnw.com/ortourfind.html. Since I live within a few miles of wine country, I've never done a tour, but the two companies I hear most about are Grape Escapes and Oregon Wine Tours. I don't know that either (or any) has regularly scheduled tours, but maybe your boyfriend could hook up with another group somehow.
Lots of good restos in Portland. Where is he staying, will he have transportation, and what kinds of food does he like?

Like beachbum, we live nearby so have not taken any tours. I did meet the owner of one company a while back though and was really impressed. His website is www.anoseforwine.com and talking to him and people who have toured with him, I would love to do that. He likes to find the "hidden gems", which there are a lot of around here.

Thanks for your very quick responses. I will check these websites for the wine tours. Meetings are at the Oregon convention centre. He will probably stay at the Crowne Plaza Downtown. He is not renting a vehicule so far. He likes all kinds of foods. What would be Portland's typical cuisine? I am assuming seafood? right? Any sugestions will be greatly appreciated.

Crowne Plaza is close to a MAX stop, which means he'll be just a few minutes from the downtown core, and the streetcar, which runs through the Pearl District and NW 21st & 23rd, two of Portland's popular dining districts. So, he'll have lots of options. I honestly doubt he'd be disappointed in almost any place he wandered into in either of those areas.
A couple of my favorite restaurants are within walking distance of Crowne Plaza: Toro Bravo and Le Pigeon. Typical Portland places, and some of the best food in town. If he's into wine, he should also try Noble Rot, a wine bar a few blocks from Le Pigeon, where they also serve some great food.
Just wondering.... your boyfriend isn't into beer too, is he? He'll think he's died and gone to heaven!

My wife and I recently booked a tour with Sunshine Limo Service (www.sunshinelimoservice.com) and were very pleased with the service. We toured in a nice Cadillac Escalade (very pleasant!), and visited several wineries around Dundee. Not cheap - 6 hours was $350 - but considering it was a private, custom tour in a nice luxury car, not bad, really.
As for restaurants - don't miss Voodoo donuts for a late night snack!

Thank you so much everyone for all your great suggestions.
to beachbum's question...no my boyfriend is not a beer drinker, it is all about wine for him and it looks likes Portland has lots to offer for wines. He loves Pinot noir.
Again, I appreciate all your suggestions. I am sure he will enjoy his time in Portland. Now I really wish I could go with him, but I have no vacation time left.
