As an almost native Coloradoan - I would recommend Keystone, Breckenridge or Winter Park for beginners. I love Steamboat and we ski there every year - but every time we have gone with beginners they have complained that the beginner "slopes" are just long, skinny, crowded "roads" - and they are right. We have skiied all levels at Keystone, Breckenridge and Winter Park and there are runs for everyone and every ability. Plus there are lots of other things to do. But keep in mind that right now we really aren't having that much snow. And the snow usually isn't all that great by Christmas - Plus Christmas is outrageously expensive. I would watch the Colorado weather and see if we are having any better luck with snow before you make your final decision.
