Can anyone turn me on to a printable street map of NYC? I have been trying to find a website and I can't seem to find one for my upcoming visit.

I found several options by googling "printable manhattan map."

NYC is just too large to print out on one page and still see any detail. Total area is several hundred square miles. The borough of Manhattan itself is over 30 square miles.

I like to use maps.google.com to print out neighborhoods of interest - you can zoom in or out to any level of detail you wish to show.

Agree that even considering the major tourist area of Manhattan - below 96th St - there is no way you will get a 1 page map that will give you any sort of detail. Esp the are downtown - below the grid system - will be almost invisible.

Better to have a large map showing the major neighborhoods, then a detailed map for each area.

You are going to have to do what I did when I went to LA. Make several printouts of places and hoods you'd like to visit. Staple them, and as you finish off each one, throw in garbage. This way, you get detailed maps and info instead of one huge blob.

When you get NY they sell laminated maps of Manhattan.

I stop people on the street all the time who are looking at a map, usually in a guide book. About half I help, the other half I frighten.

My favorite maps of Manhattan are the subway maps that I usually pick up in whatever hotel I'm staying. I've walked all over Manhattan and not been lost due these detailed maps. It's a great subway map as well as a great street and neighborhood map.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art bookstore/gift shop sells a really good laminated map of the city. I've had mine for years. I saw a woman using a magnifying glass to read her tiny computer generated city map this week. I find the printable city maps to be worthless.

For the downtown (financial district) area, try www.downtownny.com. It's a great source for information on that area and you can order (or download) a free map, restaurant guide, etc for that area of the city. The map is great,all the points of interest are clearly labeled on the map.
