Stowe Motel

Is this a good hotel for early August? Can anyone help us about what to do in and around Stowe, for 3-4 days? Thank-you!

I've haven't stayed there but it looks decent. Nice link to activities. We've stayed at a Trapp condo which I thought was too far out when we didn't have good snow conditions and the Golden Eagle resort which really isn't a resort but has great rooms and location. Vermont publishes a great visitors guide. You can drive to the east and explore Danville and Littleton. There's a great corn maze in Danville, a challenge for all ages. Visit Cabot Creamery. To the west, make a day trip to Burlington but make sure you do a loop that includes a visit to the Boyden Valley Winery in Cambridge/ Rt 104. Visit craft studios. Ben and Jerry's tour. Bike, canoe? I think you'll find plenty to do that suits your tastes.

Thank-you for the suggestions. I can't wait to go there. We wanted Stowe to be a base for seeing Vermont. We are going to Montreal from there, so it should work.

Stowe is full of inns, motels and hotels.

I liked the Grey fox inn. Under new management and have been renovating. Reasonable prices. They have a great breakfast place called Dutch Pancake House (pancakes to die for) or something close to that name and a nice little pub with a pub menu. Located right on Mountain Road.

The town has a nice Rec path where you can walk, jog, rollerblade, bike etc. The little town has some cute shops (personal fav is the christmas shoppe) and tons of restaurants and bars.

A trip in the Gondolas up Mt. Manesfield (sp?) was good too. Plus we drove the car up and thru Smugglers Notch, which was a kick.

As Dfrostnh says, a trip to Burlington would be nice. Lots to do there including some type of cruise on Lake Champlain.

Have fun.

Haven't stayed at the Stowe Motel, but have driven past it. Looks OK - nothing fancy. I've stayed at Topnotch and Van Trapp Lodge. Both are lovely, but expensive. Topnotch has tennis courts and an upscale spa if you are into that sort of thing. Although I never stayed at the Green Mountain Inn, it looks really nice and it is a bit cheaper. Another option is to stay at a B&B, there are many to choose from. I don't know how far you want to stray from Stowe, but I visited the Shelburne museaum a few years ago, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's not a museum in the traditional sense. It is essentially a village like place with lots of different buildings/houses. Here's a link to it http://www.shelburnemuseum.org/buildings_and_grounds/. I can recommend Michael's on the Hill for dinner (it's about 10 minutes outside of town). We also love Mes Amis, which is in town, every time we go to Stowe - make reservations as it gets very crowded for dinner.

We stayed in Stowe for a few days during the fall. We stayed at Smuggler's Notch. Sorry, I don't know anything about Stowe Motel.

We took a gondola up to the top of Mt Mansfield and had yummy waffles at the top! We took a hayride out at the Von Trapp Lodge. We also went to the Ben & Jerry's Factory and Cold Hollow Cider Mill. Cabot Creamery is also fairly close. Have fun! We loved it!

We've gone back to Stowe several times since our first stay at the Golden Eagle. We've tried other places (Topnotch, Stoweflake) but keep coming back to the Golden Eagle. Value, location, and amenities can't be beat.

It's right across the street from Pie in the Sky which is always busy, and a great casual place to eat. There are so many good restaurants around town, though. Another good casual place is the 50's style diner in town (Main St I think?).

Don't miss the retro toy shop and the home goods shop as you go further up Mountain Rd. They're both on the left.

The rec path is always good for some outdoors activity. It winds back and forth over the river and attracts both walkers and bike riders.

Have a great time - we're going back in July so let me know of any new attractions.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I can't wait. Anyone else know anything about Stowe Motel? Also, we would like to explore Vermont from Stowe and do day trips. Any suggestions? We are going end of July, early August.
