steamed crabs near Chesapeake Bay Bridge?
I know that blue crabs are ever more scarce around the Bay, but I'm wondering if there's anywhere in the area of the Bay Bridge and/or Kent Island (not Annapolis) that still has excellent steamed crabs on the menu. (E.g. not over cooked and hopefully good size, not the all-you-can-eat mediums, though I know that many folks do enjoy the small ones....) My memory is that there're a couple of places on Kent Island, but I have no idea which is likely to be the best bet. I'll be meeting someone at BWI and then driving over to the Chestertown area (where it's virtually impossible to get good-sized and properly steamed crab.) This person used to live in the area, is a crab afficionado, and is dying to feast on her dearly-loved shellfish. In short, are such glories still available? Thanks!!
(P.S. If Annapolis is the only fighting chance, we may be willing to go out of our way, but would much prefer not. I know, too, that finding good-sized crabs can be hit or miss-- just wondering where my best chance might be. This will be a Monday, by the way.)

Thank you, 2thdecay. Will Harris's likely be the better choice over that place on the other side of route 50? Fisherman's something or other? Or is that place no longer there? Monday is likely to be a difficult time to find crabs, I think.

The restaurant you are thinking of is the Fisherman's Crab Deck which is still there and which offers all sizes of steamed crabs by the half dozen or dozen. I like the place myself and have never had a bad meal there - or a bad crab but it's been about two years since I've been there. I checked out Harris Crab House menu and don't see steamed crabs on there. Your other option might be to go to Rock Hall to Waterman's Crab House which is less than half hour from Chestertown.

Crabs in Rock Hall (imho) are absolutely awful-- worst we've had anywhere. Always way overcooked-- as if they were steamed previously and then re-steamed-- pure mush. (Ironic since it's a "waterman's" town.)
Thanks for additional suggestions. Still wondering whether best bet might be Fisherman's or Harris's (which does, in fact, do steamed crabs). Will probably call that morning and try to get a sense of which might have the largest crabs.

Well there's another option and that's Kentmorr which is straight down Rt 8 (the first exit off the Bay Bridge) take a right heading down the road and then take a right where the airfield is and there should be a sign there for Kentmorr. Crabs have always been good there - I think better than harris's and it is on the water.

Just to say that we had our crabs and enjoyed them very much. Went to Harris's and the atmosphere was just right-- very much a "crabhouse," on an interesting body of water (Kent Narrows), dozens of tables, all hammering away, etc. Crabs were well prepared (i.e. not mush, not overly spiced), but the size was a disappointment. We purposely didn't do the all-you-can-eat because two of us don't like to pick out small crabs. I was happy that they said they had "jumbo." (I'd have gotten something else if they didn't have jumbos.) In fact, the supposed jumbos weren't-- they were "large" (at best). An even more serious crabhouse is very strict in their sizing: when someone orders (and pays for) jumbo, they should get jumbo. But the fries were excellent (and we didn't even have to ask for vinegar--there it was already on the table!) Disappointed to learn that their softcrabs had been frozen (which was not volunteered; came out only when pressed).
In short, it was all fine-- no terrific, not memorable, but absolutely quite acceptable and pleasant.
Thanks again to responders.
