Steamboat, Colorado with a 3 year old?

Looking to book a trip to Stemboat,Colorado with a 3 year old in March. Would like to know where is the best condo place to stay that is closest to a ski school for him. We would like a pool and first class accomodations if available. We think the closer the better to the "magic carpet" since he is young and will need to return to the condo for naps. Thanks for your help.

I can't give you the name of the best condo place that the closest to the Steamboat ski school with a pool and first class accommodations - but with those specifics, you should be able to call a booking company and they'll tell you what fits. You could try http://www.steamboat.com/chamber.

There is only one ski school at Steamboat, and it's in the main building, where the gondola takes off from. Unless you're planning to put your 3-year-old in for only half a day, taking a nap is usually part of the program (especially if the parents request it). As I recall, Steamboat requires kids (or at least they did 3 years ago) to be 3 1/2 years old before they will put them on skis, where many other resorts will do that at 3, if you want him to be skiing.

Of course, not many condo places are the closest, and at Steamboat, not many are ski-in/ski-out. Many (all?) of the condos at the ski resort have shuttle buses, however, that run very frequently. Often they will also drive you into town and pick you up. Our kids LOVE the shuttle bus ride, even though it's only about 2 blocks long.

We always stay at Trappeur's Crossing, which is about 2 blocks from the base area. It's very nice, the staff is very helpful, and the complex has an indoor/outdoor pool, several hot tubs, and a bunch of other amenities, but I don't know that I'd call it first class, because it's very nice but not luxurious.

Have a great time - Steamboat is one of our family's favorite places to visit and ski!

A three-year old might be just as happy playing in a nice day-care facility, as actually taking a ski lesson. I know my kids at age 3 would have been as impressed with a jungle gym or playing in the snow, as strapping on skis and trying to be coordinated enough to get down a little incline.
I wouldn't worry too much about a ski school, but find a great child-care facility instead. Might broaden your options, and even be less expensive. I think many of the ski area daycares take the kids out to play in the snow and/or ride saucers, etc. Have fun in Steamboat!

Our now-13 year old daughter learned how to ski at Steamboat when she was 3. Loved their ski school--ski school for a couple of hours, followed by lunch, rest time and then craft time. She had a great day and the staff was marvelous. We stayed at a private condo that trip but have enjoyed the Sheraton other times--summer and winter. Close to the slopes, pool, restaurant, etc. We love Steamboat!

Check out Steamboat Springs natural hot water pools. Its really refreshing, but don't leave the 3 year old in the springs after sunset when bathing suits becoming optional.
