Stashing stuff in Manhattan.
Im wondering if there are any lockers or something along those lines to stash a jacket or umbrella in in Manhattan? And somewhere I wont get them ripped off of course. Im not staying in Manhattan and I dont want to go back to the hotel if possible. Is there anything in Grand Central Station or any other subway stations?
Thanks everyone, mscmkr
Also, multiple locations would be great as im going to be all over the city depending on the day.

Short answer--no.
Post 9/11 world makes that an unlikely option ,especially in New York.
My question is, why would you want to store something as small as a a jacket or umbrella anyway, rather than take them with you? Those are 2 items you might want at any time as weather changes, stores, and restaurants might be cold or warm, etc. Of course you can check them at a restaurant you are going to, and even at some big department stores like Macy's.
I don't understand the "multiple locations would be great as im going to be all over the city depending on the day.". It's not as if you can drop something off in one place, and pick it up ant another

There are no lockers in NYC since 9/11 for security reasons.
The only exception is Penn Station - and then you have to be holding an Amtrak ticket - and they'll check train luggage for a short time.
Your choices are:
carry your things with you
leave them in your hotel
ask a hotel in the area you want to put in their check room for a fee (but they hold bags - not jackets and umbrellas)
Agree - with things so small why not just carry them?

The museums all have coat checks for things like jackets and umbrellas. If you're going say to the Mus. of Nat. Hist. on the uws, you could check your stuff and leave it there (until the museum closes) and come back for it.
Most of the dept. stores also have coat/package checks. If you're coming in/out of Manhattan through Penn station, walk across to Macy's and use their check room.
