Vicki:

Welcome! My picks: (I live on Treasure Island)

Cuban: the Floridian, on Treasure Island. Also (takeout only) Airport variety store, located across the street from the St. Pete-Clearwater airport.

Steaks: Spoto's Steak Joint, on Park Street in St. Pete

Seafood: there's lots, including: Mid Peninsula Seafood, on 49th Street at 4th Ave South (this is a fish market too - very casual). Also, Backfin Blue, in Gulfport (get the corn chowder - it's loaded with crabmeat).

You didn't ask, but Special Night Out: Salt Rock Grill, on Gulf Blvd in Indian Rocks Beach.
Also, owned by the same folks as Salt Rock, try the Seminole Bistro, on Seminole Blvd at 86th. Kind of yuppy, but great food.

Have fun!

Joan...we live at the Gulfport marina on weekends and struggle to find decent dining. Where is Backfin Blue?

Harvey's Grill near just north of downtown St. Pete is a personal favorite. Grouper sandwiches are great, but they have a wide variety of moderately priced food choices

Address for Harvey's is
Harvey's 4th St. Grill
3121 4th St., St. Petersburg
(727) 821-6516

A good seafood restaurant not far from there is Pep's. These are both east of I-75 - - not on the beach

Re: Backfin Blue

It is located at 2913 Beach Blvd So, on the main drag, walkable (5-7 blocks?) from the Casino. You will love it! (Anyplace that uses children's sand pails as wine buckets has my vote!). Also, if you like meatloaf or crabcakes, theirs are great. They recently opened a beach cafe, the name escapes me, it is a play on Backfin Blue, and is located across the street from the children's playground at the public beach in Gulfport.
Enjoy!

Joan...thanks, we'll give it a try this weekend and will look for the other place as well.

That entire area is lost in time, isn't it, but just a matter of time before the developers strike! For now though...we love how happily out of step it is. There are plenty of marinas that are both closer and more upscale, but I wouldn't move out of that sleepy little cove for anything, now. It's the perfect hideaway and we love it there!
