Life time resident of St. Louis here (until recently). The Hyatt is OK the lobby is pretty elaborate but the rooms, except for the top level ones are fairly average. A lot of the rooms look inwards into Union Station, which is has been renovated into a mall. We stayed in a room that looked outwards onto Market Street to watch the Thanksgiving parade. Good view of the street, but as I said, the room itself was pretty average.
On the other hand, my wife put us up at the Westin in Cupples Station, a collection of restored red brick warehouses for my birthday shortly after it opened. We enjoyed it much more than the Hyatt. They've done a great job with the place and the Metrolink light rail will have you to Union Station or to Laclede's Landing in less than 5 minutes. It's roughly central to either location.
My recommendation is definitely the Westin.

I have stayed at the Hyatt at Union Station...this past summer. Like the person before said, the lobby was pretty cool, but the rooms were definitely "average" at best. I can tell you, there is no way we would pay what they wanted us to...(something like $289/night) we got our room off of Priceline.com for like $50...no kidding. We said that it was worth that, but not much more. S
My opinion, find somewhere else for the $$...
