St. Louis Mo hotels...which area to stay in please help
Hi
We are coming to St. louis and may stay at the Westin but it is not during baseball season (next month). Is this to downtown for our family. We are staying for a few days and never been before. Will be going to Faust park and six flags, where should wee stay.
Thanks

You may want to stay nearer those two attractions since both are at least 20 miles from the downtown area. Downtown is like many, not too much to do and not too much open in the evening for food (with the exception of "trendy places" which could eat up a family food budget). You should go to the City Museum and the Arch-true family favorites. Again, check out Drury Inns-there are several with a variety of locations to chose from.

I just checked Six Flags website since I was going to be very surprised if they were open in March. It does open for the season on March 28th and then only for weekends in April. Hopefully your schedule works with Six Flags.
I live here, so I never use hotels and would have trouble advising on one to stay in, especially for 7 people. However, with a large section of our major highway (I64/Highway 40) closed until Jan. 2010, I would suggest staying somewhere other than downtown. It's hard enough for locals to figure out how to get downtown, you would really have a tough time if you were trying to get back to a hotel a couple of times/day. And your proposed destinations are quite a bit away from the downtown area.
Try hotels in the Central West End or Clayton to be more centrally located. Or try hotels slightly south, along I44, which will take you directly to downtown, and to Six Flags.
I do agree that some "must sees" include a visit to the Arch and the City Museum http://www.citymuseum.org/home.asp.
Also, if they are still giving them, the tours at Anheuser Busch (now InBev) are intersting. Yes, kids can go on them, they serve both beer and sodas at the end of the tours.
What ages are your kids? The Magic House could be fun

Also the Science Center http://www.slsc.org/
Our zoo in Forest Park is great, and free http://www.stlzoo.org/
Try Purina Farms, I think they open back up, by reservation only, in Mid-march.

Thank you so much, well I guesss six flags is out because we come in a few weeks. I was bummed to hear that. I was looking to stay at the Sheraton Clayton as I heard this is a nice area. We are just staying there a few days before we head to Hannibal, so Ineed to find things to do with kids. IS this close to Faust Park (if that is what it is called) we have a cabin there that belongs to my ancestors. Tahnks for much for the great ideas keep them coming and thank you for letting me kow about the freeway probelms.

Here's the website for Faust Park
http://www.co.st-louis.mo.us/parks/faust_home.html
Since it's a St. Louis County public park, I'm a little confused about your owning a cabin there. The Main attractions are the Butterfly House and the Carousel. Are you sure your cabin is located in Faust Park?
Google maps says it's 13.3 miles from the Sheraton in Clayton to Faust Park. And Clayton is a nice area, and centrally located.

Mom - we like this Marriott. It is west of 270 and just a few minutes from Faust Park.

The Sheraton Clayton is also a nice area kind of in between things. Lots of nice resturants as well.

Thank you so much for all the great info. And Liz5959 in the historic village as a cabin owned by the Mertz' and they are my ancestors. I was invited over 10 years ago to the dedication but coulod not go. Then I look up on hte web and it looks as if they are closed on the inside...AHH! I cannot believe how many things are closed I live in a warmer climate so nothing is ever closed for the winter. Maybe they will let me see inside the cabin as this is the main reason we are driving through St.Louis.
I will keep checking on all these ideas.

Hopefully you can contact the Parks Dept. and the will give you a tour of the interior of the cabin.
The weather in St. Louis is always weird, it was in the 60's two days ago and it's 32* now with forecast of snow this weekend. But with school schedules, I don't know how places like Six Flags in any location stay open all year. It must be so hard to staff.

I would recommend the Crowne Plaza Riverfront, it is in an excellent location in Downtown and it has rooms for under $100 a night.
