Boston transit suggestions

We'll be in the RI/MA area in a couple of days. Flying in/out of BOS, staying in Warwick, RI for a WWII reunion. I have 3 seniors that can't do a lot of walking or stair climbing. It looks like the best option for us to see Boston will be on a Duck Tour. We'll have a rental but I'm not sure I want to deal with the traffic I've been reading about. I need to know the best place for us to drive from RI (I-95) and park in the Boston area so we can take the bus or subway to get closest to Prudential Center. A bus would be best as I know some subways require a lot of stairs or walking....OR should we drive all the way in and park close to the Duck Tour. Fodorites always provide the best suggestions so I'm hoping someone can help me out. Many thanks!

Just to clarify, do you mean that you will be staying in RI the entire time, but just want to head up to Boston for a daytrip to ride the Duck tour?

My suggestion would be:
1) Drive into Boston and park at the garage at Prudential Center. This probably is the most economical and fastest way for all of you.

2) Drive to Providence and switch for the MBTA Commuter Rail; get off at Back Bay Station, which is about 1-2 blocks from Prudential Center. However, I don't know what the parking situation is at the Providence MBTA station.

3) Drive to Providence and switch for PeterPan Bus. However, the Peter Pan Bus stops at South Station in Boston, which is not convenient for the Pru.

Same here, as what yk said, just park at the Prudential. There are several entrances into the garage, if you park in the correct area in the garage, the place where people board the Duck Boats from are literally just a few steps away. The Duck Tours boarding area is on Huntington Avenue so wehn you park, go through the Huntington Ave entrance.

P.S., My understanding is that the Duck Tours are super popular, so you should look into booking tickets in advance, rather than wait until you arrive in Boston.

Thank you for all the advice. I'll be sure to book ahead. Once I get my bearings I'll be able to decide what other adventures in Boston we'll venture to. I hope we'll be able to do more than just the Duck Tour...depends on how the seniors are feeling.

What about the hop on/hop off trolley tour. If you just road the circuit it would take a few hours, but there are many stops that would dump you near a site and then pick it up later. There are several steps to get on/off the trolley, and the seniors would have to be able to stand at a stop waiting for the next trolley.

Most MBTA stations have access for those with disabilities, and while this has gotten better, it can be infuriatingly unreliable. Follow yk's option #1.

Another warning - in some of the older parts of Boston (North End, Faneuil Hall areas) there are uneven sidewalks and even still some cobblestones. These are dangerous for those with any walking difficulties. If any of these 3 people use a cane or walker, advise them to bring it.
