Our big fall trip is just about planned. I have one more reservation to make. Can anyone suggest accomodations for either St. Ignace or Mackinaw City? Thanks!

I stay with family when I travel to the Straits, so I don't have personal experience, but can offer three tips.

1) www.mackinawcity.com gives you a chance to compare locations and deals.

2) Travelocity lists most motels in both communities and gives you a second place to check rates.

3) The motels listed at mackinaw-city dot com all belong to the folks that own that website. It is not a third party site with unbiased recomendations. I have heard many complaints about that group. Their positive reviews on other sites are suspect.

PS: Unless you are going for the casino, I think you will find much more to do in MC than in St. Ignace.

You should check the Michigan tripadvisor forum. There has been a lot of discussion lately about a chain of hotels/motels in the Mackinaw City area and their horrible management practices. Just an FYI but I also agree with Keith that there is going to be more to see/do in the MC area than St. Ignace

Thank you both for the info. Really, we won't have much time to see or do anything since we are driving from Greenbay via the UP and this is merely a stop over before going to Mackinac Island the next day. Still, it was rather disconcerting to read some of the feedback on motels/hotels I was considering...dirty, etc. I guess I would just like something clean and on the beach. I will check out your suggestions.
