spa and wineries

There are 4 women traveling together staying in San Fran for 4 nights.

Most of our travel will be in wine country (don't know where yet) but would like the name of a good spa and the suggestions you have for wineries.

I would recommend Viansa (winery in Sonoma--has a great "Italian Marketplace") and Kirkland Ranch (has fantastic wine at great prices as well as some of the nicest staff in the wine country). Are you looking for a day spa? If so Maiden Lane is FANTASTIC!! It is pricey but well worth it.

Or do you want a spa in the wine country..check out Indian Springs in Calistoga for the works. You can also use their olympic size mineral water pool if you are a day spa client. If you want something in the SF area..how about the spa at the Claremont in Berkeley. They also have a pool. Come, languish, get pampered, have lunch or top it off with dinner in the East Bay..many great spots including the Cafe upstairs at Chez Panisse.

Lodge at Sonoma has Raindance Spa. I've been seriously looking at it for next year. It looks like it might be a great base for maybe two nights and do the other two in the city.

The other choice is to stay in SF and hire a driver to do the wine country and taste all you want. I haven't been to a real spa in the city. Spas are the rage for salons and hotels to make some extra money. It is hard for them to find qualified help so it pays to really do some homework.

Here is a 2nd vote for Indian Springs in Calistoga-fabulous pool and cool bungalow accomodations. If this is your choice you will be at the top of the Napa Valley/Hwy 29/silverado Trail and could easily venture out daily to many wineries and restaurants. You would never get bored in 4 days! Another choice might be to locate yourself in Sonoma County at Sonoma Mission Inn or farther North in Healdsburg as PamSF has suggested. An incredible abundance of wineries and lodging info is availiable for this area at www.wineroad.com. Let us know what you decide!

Healdsburg Hotel has a spa as well.Check their website. You will be in downtown Healdsburg however. The wineroad link is a great suggestion.
