Also love your screen name. Charleston is one of the loveliest cities in the US in my opinion. Been there several times, never tire of it. The best way to get a great overview of the city is to take one of the several mini bus tours that are available at the visitors center.(I think the visitors center is off of Meeting Street). The tour is fantastic and will give you ideas for things you want to go back and more fully explore. We stayed at the Courtyard Downtown Riverview, an abosolutly lovely hotel--not your typical Courtyard by Marriott. Be sure to ask for a waterview room.
The Springhill Suites in that general area was also very nice.
There are also very upscale and pricy bed and breakfasts, but these two hotels were very nice and suited us just fine.
Have a great time on your vacation.

Charleston is absolutely perfect for that length of stay, and you won't be disappointed. It has lots of history (colonial and Civil War), great architecture, plenty of tours and other activities, plantations, nice beaches, and wonderful food. If you want some idea of how to fill up four days, take a look at my Web site - www.oneeyed.homestead.com.
