South West Colorado - advice needed please
We are considering a family trip to SW CO in summer '08. Likely we will stay at a dude ranch for week and I am trying to decide what else to do while we are in the 4 Corners.
I would appreciate any feedback on these options. Additional suggestions are also welcome.
1. Mesa Verde NP
2. Monument Vally
3. Canyon de Chelly NM
4. Silverton - Durango railway
Thanks

Go to www.lightninrv.com and click on 'Rentals'. Once there, click on the 'Special Events Calendar' on the menu. There you will find a ton of things happening, all over the country. If you look for the time period July 1 -7, you'll find some good items there on the Four Corners area with some links to check things out. But, don't just look at it for that time...or just the time you're planning on going, as the destination sites we list are good just about all year long, and you might find some other good items about that area. Or, find an event close-by that you want to see/attend on the way there.
You definitely want to take the train ride from Durango to Silverton. And, there's still a 1800's saloon on main street in Durango that you can still buy a beer, or coke, at today!
Check out our 'Travel Links' as well. Some real fun ones there like the "World's Wackiest Tourist Attractions" and the 'World's Largest Roadside Attractions"...and some very helpful ones as well.
That's a beautiful area and you're going to have a great time!

We just booked this trip for next summer. In net: fly Newark to ABQ.
Night 1 in Chinle, AZ (Canyon de Chelly). Night 2 in Goulding AZ (Monument Vally). Night 3 at Mesa Verde Lodge. The next week at Wilderness Trails Ranch near Durango, CO. I will post a trip report after we return.
