South Seas Resort - Captiva Island

I plan on visiting Captiva Island and staying at the South Seas Resort with our two children ageas 6 and 10. Is there enough to do for this age? Also, what accommodations do you recommend? There are so many different options and its very confusing. also, how is the golf? Thanks.

There was plenty to do but all of it cost extra, even the tennis. It was one of the nicest places I've ever stayed but they nickeled and dimed us to death!

You don't mention when you are going? We just returned from Florida and visited Captiva and Sanibel Island. Extremely quiet at this time of year. Nice place, but not even the gift shops were open.

I was there last year, with a 4 and 2 years old kids, SSR,is on the north part of the island,if you want to go a near grocery store and pay reasonable prices it will take you 40 minutes drive on one line road, 35 mph speed limit, I got two tikets in 4 days
I think is a nice play to enjoy family and beach, very quiet place.I do not play golf, sorry.

I spent a week at the SSR in August 2000 w/ my wife and 5yr old and 9yr old. There is a centreal hotel but most of the development consists of segregated condominiums (1, 2 and 3 bedroom). We stayed at one which was a very short walk to the guld. The beaches are quiet, clean and enjoyble. We even saw jumping Dolphin. each block of condos has one or more pools. There is a central pool at the end where we spent most of our pool time. You can also rent canoes by the hour or day which was not too expensive. You stay in the bay and it is safe.
There are a number of restaurants but we ate all our meals at captiva or sanibel restaurants. There is a nature center on sanibel Ding darling? where you can drive and walk. There also is a nice course on sanibel (near the beginning of the island) open to the public. it won't be that cheap but is worth playing. The golf is nine holes at SSR and not full regulation. I would not be too excited about it. SSR captiva and sanibel is quiet, relaxing and enjoyable. You will have fun.

Spent 3 weeks at South Seas last month -one of my favorite spots. There are planned activities for children. Golf course is pretty and fun. Tennis is free depending on where you stay. Lots of pools and the gulf. You can rent boats. You get a SS charge card when you arrive and never have to deal with money inside the plantation. Uncle Bob's is a wonderful ice cream parlor near a game room for kids. It's not inexpensive to be there but delightful. Pick up your groceries at a Publix on the way in. There are a couple of groceries on the island -not super ones. the Mucky Duck and the Bubble room are fun for kids. The latter is expensive. Have a great time

Hi Lori,
We stayed at South Seas a few years ago and are actually planning on going back again this summer, however we are considering staying at Pointe Santo this time. I thought South Seas was very nice, we have a 9 year old and she had a blast. There were alot of kids there and she met some kids from England and we did things with them during the week. The kids love the dolphin cruise, I never saw so many dolphins up close... it was great! Depending on who you are renting from, you may or may not have full use of the resort. You need a resort card to eat at some of the restaurants, even the ice cream shop!! The people we rented from last time provided us with the card and just billed us when they got the bill, but the place we reserved this time the owners do not provide us with the card. You might want to ask ahead of time... They have a little nature center on the grounds there that my daughter loved and a teen club where the kids can go in the evenings and hang out. There is a trolley that takes you around the resort so the kids can move about pretty easily. Have fun!

When I rent my units at South Seas, i simply put the renters down as my guests for the week, and they always receive a credit card. Depends on whether you rent from an outside real estate agent (I think). owners should be able to get you a card

I too having been checking the Captiva area thru the Chamber of Commerce site. One of the owners of a South Seas unit stated that the charge for a 'card' was $100/day + any activity charges. The charges are listed on the South Seas website. Is this different than the charges you see?

We just got back from a short honeymoon. We stayed at Casybel on Sanibel and had a great time. We did eat at a buffet at the SSR at the suggestion of our Hertz shuttle driver. I would avoid the buffet...not worth it.

Can you let me know how you enjoyed Casa Ybel? We are changing our plans to stay there instead. Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks
