South Seas Resort
Has anyone been to South Seas Resort on Captiva recently? I heard it has been updated but I'd like to hear from someone who's visited recently because there's lots of talk on this forum of run-down accomodations.

Your question is difficult to answer as there are dozens of condominium associations at South Seas with hundreds of individual owners with units on different refurbishment schedules. There is a wide range of quality in the units as well as the amount of time since the last refurbishment. I would be specific with the rental agent or South Seas as to when your accomodation was last updated.
I'm on site frequently but I can't really give you a schedule of the updates. BTW I tried to find all the discussion of run-down accomodation but could find one commentary that was before the refurbishment cycle.
Families using beach side accomodations are hard on furnishings and the sand makes a dogs breakfast of floors, etc. Most owners in the better condos look to do monthly or seasonal rentals and avoid the family trade.

yes, royal shell vacations handles rental condos at south seas. we booked thru them last spring and it was MUCH cheaper than booking thru the resort. we had a 3 bedroom condo that was cheaper than a one bedroom quoted by the resort. we stayed in a condo that was part of the resort complex, and it was very nice. the only disadvantage is you don't get the amenities card when you book thru royal shell, which means you can't use the golf course or some of the restaurants. but the pools are open to everyone. not sure about the kid's club tho, our kids were too old for that so we didn't want to pay for programs we wouldn't use anyway.
since we don't golf, this was fine for us. and there are plenty of restaurants around that you can go to, some right on the property at the entrance gate.

It is unclear from your message whether you are familar with the resort. If not I can tell you a little about it. We stayed there in the summer of 2001. It has a central lobby, a few restaurents of varying quality, a master pool area, an ice cream shop, various stores including a general store, nice beaches with beach concessions, smaller pools through out the resort, tennis and a small golf course.
We stayed in a two bedroom cond and were pleased. it was not luxurious but it was very functional. There are a wide variety of cond choices. I found central booking on line by searching for siuth seas plantation.

Hi LisaE,
I stayed at South Seas this past April. We stayed in the hotel/motel (?) section of it up by the Marina. While I wouldn't say that it was run-down I would say it certainly hadn't been recently updated. Everything was fine though and it's easy to walk to the restaurants, beach, pool, etc from there.
