South Maui accomadations in February

We are planning a stay in Maui the first week in February, would like to stay in South Maui. Any suggestions of reasonable accomations for 4 adults(two couples)? Freinds of ours are staying at the Grand Wailea but that is out of our price range. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Wailea area is a very expensive area for lodging. For lower priced lodging check in the Kihei area.

What is your budget? And are you looking to share a 2 bedroom unit with the other couple, or each get your own 1 bedroom unit in the same complex?

I love the South Kihei area of Maui and also love almost any condo complex that is on one of the Kamaole beaches, or on Keawakapu Beach. Places I like that are oceanfront are Hale Hui Kai, Royal Mauian, and Kamaole Nalu (least expensive of these 3). I also highly recommend Hale Pau Hana. It has the best beachfront location but costs a bit more. The best option there is to get two 1-bedroom units, unless you are lucky and can reserve one of the very few 2-bedroom units in the rental pool.

If you look at those suggestion on line and find they are still too expensive, there are cheaper options across Kihei Road that are still very close to the beach.

All of these are shouting distance to your friends shelling out hundreds of dollars more for their Wailea hotel. BTW, you should be able to visit them and enjoy much of the wonderful pool and oceanside area at the Grand Wailea. We splurged for a 1 night visit while staying at a Kihei condo. The only place they check for wrist bands is on the slides.

Thanks Barbara, some great suggestions I will make some calls. We were hoping to find a two bedroom for around $300 a night. Does that sound possible?
Thanks, again

Currently there are some great condo rates in Maui due to decreased bookings. Not sure if they will apply to Feb '10 bookings, though. I always ask if there are any discounts (even if not advertised) and always get at least a 10% reduction. You should be able to get a great unit in the $300-$350 range. Here are some that I am familiar with:
www.halehuikaimaui.com. Look at # 313 and #311. I toured 313 in January. It is great for two couples because it has one king and one queen bed...no twins.
At Royal Mauian there are some highly upgraded units that are available either through private owner or small local agency. There is a rental office at the complex, but the units they handle are just OK; nothing special. For some really nice units, go to www.vrbo.com and enter these #"s:
209414, 64885, and 203489 as examples of nicer condos. I have a friend who is in 64885 right now; goes every year and loves it. I am curious for him to come back and tell me if they've upgraded the lanai furniture; I think it is weird that they have a $1M+ condo with that cheap resin stuff on the lanai.
