South Carolina island beach areas for fall vacation
Hi,
We are looking for a pretty natural beach area somewhere between Charleston and Beaufort, SC. for a fall vacation. We like to explore nature but also like the comforts of a condo and heated pool....also, looking for local color and food. There appears to be several islands in this area. Any suggestions? We are not interested in areas with high rises and tourist attractions. Thanks for any help you can give.

You might try Seabrook Island or Kiawah Island fpr condo rentals. If you stay on Kiawah, you may to rent through the Resort to have access to a pool. Check the end-of-season dates for pools at both places as they are outdoors. Both islands are beautiful. Biking is great too.

The Night Heron pool on Kiawah is the heated pool. We swam there at the end of October last year.
But remember that you must rent through the Resort to have access to the heated pool. Some of the other condo regimes have pools but they are not heated.

Hilton Head is affordable in the fall and have many condo options. HH has biking, kayaking, horse back riding, nature cruises, and more varieties of food than you can sample in a one week trip.
At the peak of summer, Hilton Head is busy. In the fall, you will never have a wait.
The Sea Pines area has many condos on the beach or within a block or two of the beach. All depends on your budget.
Have fun.

Well I really like Sea Pines on Hilton Head - but of course Hilton Head is quite a developed island. But in Sea Pines it is primarialy residential, lots of marsh area and the beach will not be crowded in the fall. We love to bike ride there! There is also Fripp Island across from Beaufort - not nearly as developed as Hilton Head.

When our kids were younger we vacationed many times at Wild Dunes (Isle of Palms outside of Charleston), Kiawah and Fripp Island. All were great places and were very memorable trips. They offer exactly what you are seeking. Have done Hilton Head also, it's more "built up" but still nice.
