South Beach Hurricane Damage

Does anyone know if the Miami airport has opened yet? I've also read on this site about a curfew in Miami. Is that still in existence? I have a vacation planned for Fort Lauderdale and South Beach at the end of this week (11/4-11/8). Wondering if I should cancel. Any info/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You'll be fine.

The Miami airport re-opened a few days ago. South Beach fared fine and has power.

Does anyone know anything about the beaches, restaurants, bars, shops, etc.. in South Beach? Are they open and functioning normally?

Kiki,
We too are going to the Miami area this weekend (my husband leaves tomorrow) so have been doing lots of research on conditions. Someone on this site sent me to www.herald.com and that's proven to be very helpful with info on open stores, etc. My understanding is that there is a 12 midnight to 6 a.m. curfew in effect indefinitely. This may cramp your South Beach style. Won't bother us as we'll be at a corporate hotel event. I'll post more on Wednesday after I get a report from my husband.

Thank you so much for your help. I will check out that site right away. I called our hotel in South Beach (Loews) and was told they have a generator and they are functioning normally. They also said all of the restaurants, shops, etc.. are open for business as well. I have a hard time believing that all is absolutely ok. Wondering if they say this so I don't cancel? I'd be interested in hearing any more information on South Beach as it comes up. Thanks.

South Beach really didn't suffer too much with the hurricane. It should be fine and getting better every day. On the other hand, here in Coral Gables, I still have no power at home! The herald website is the best source for info; so is the miami-dade website www.miamidade.gov. The further north you go, the worse the hurricane affected, so Fort Lauderdale may still have more problems. For example, I think they are still under a boil water order. Actually, Miami Beach may still have a boil water order, so it would be a good question to ask of your hotel. The gas line problem has gone away, so that shouldn't be a concern.

Ok, thanks. I hope things get better for you soon. I did call the hotel again and asked about a curfew and they said there was none for South Beach. I will ask about the boil water order next.
