Where do you recommend for purchasing Broadway tickets in advance? Want to avoid obstructed views, and not all the sites I've checked mention it.

First, I suggest you visit broadwaybox.com to see whether there are discount codes available for the show(s) you want.

I then recommend that you PHONE ticketmaster or telecharge (whichever co. the show you want uses) and speak to a live operator who will tell you about the seats. But I also would go to playbill.com and look at the seating chart of the theater(s) you plan to go to and see where the seats are yourself.

I'll add if you're talking about going to a sold out show and using a ticket broker (scalper), folks here have had good luck with applause-tickets.com

I wouldn't hang my hat on calling Ticketmaster or Telecharge. I was able to pull up single seat for a "sold out" show yesterday. I could only do one at a time and wanted to see if I could get another for the same show. So I decided to ask a human being at Telecharge if they could get me two singles close together. The phone rep had no seats at all on her system. I then booked one single online and then another, on the same aisle two rows apart. Score one for me!

I also used Ace Ticketing yesterday for Odd Couple tickets, and didn't get nearly as gouged as I thought I would!

Thanks for the tips, I appreciate it. I looked at the seating charts at Playbill, and that helps to see what your angle of the stage will be, but how would you know if there were pipes or other objects in your view? I guess my question is, when I order my tickets, will they let me know of obstructions? Thank you.

Every time I have ordered online through either Ticketmaster or Telecharge, it clearly says "Obstructed view". Telecharge will even tell you how much is obstructed, for example with Spamalot, it said that while the bulk of the action is on center stage at the castle, you may not see the dialogue that takes place on the side of the stage.

The problem comes if you're not buying from TM or Telecharge, either through a broker or a personal transaction. A reputable broker will tell you, but you can never be sure.
