Where is the name of that corner diner located where Jerry Seinfeld and his pals used to eat on the show? And where is it located in the city?

Tom's Diner. Located at 112th & Broadway (Upper westside)

Soup Kitchen is on 55th but between Broadway and 8th. Isn't it funny how this question reappears every time that episode is shown. I watched the rerun tonight too.

Just for future reference: The Soup Kitchen closes for the summer every year.

FWIW:
Although the actual diner used for the show's exterior scenes is located @ Broadway & 112th St., the character in the show was supposed to live on 81st St, between Columbus and Amsterdam. (Jerry, his wife & child now live on the corner of 81st St & Central Park West),
Also, the character of Paul from 'Mad About You' was supposed to have originally 'lived' across the street from the Jerry character before moving down to the village with Jamie.

The lobster or crab bisque is superb (or was 4 years ago when I worked nearby). Enjoy!

I work very near the Soup Kitchen, and it seems that every time I walk by it's closed. (Not just the summer, unless it's a very long season!) Does anyone know if it's open now??

I thought I heard it was closed because the owner is on an extended vacation...and that was back in the summer. Surely he is back by now. I would defenitely check before heading that way..well, maybe not! If he recognizes you voice you may get "No Soup for you!!".....

Zagats says it's open from November to April -- yes the soup nazi takes a very long vacation. You might want to call first, but only if you have a nice voice:

One thing to remember -- the chef at the Soup Kitchen, like any other human being would, bitterly resents being viewed as a Nazi. Do NOT use the term around the place; it cheapens the term to refer to a control freak as a "Nazi."

I just read an article on him in the Brooklyn Heights paper. He plans to open a big store in Brooklyn! He is also go to be selling his soups to delis and stores.

Yep, he HATES being referred to as the "Soup Nazi". His soups will be sold under the name "Great International Chef Soups" or something like that.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is a Soup Nazi? I am German and am curious about the origin of this term. I didn't think there were any avowed Nazi's allowed in the States or they had been deported.

Soup Nazi was just a term given to a certain soup vendor on the TV sitcom Seinfeld. They used this name just because he was a little eccentric. Obviously, there is no relation to him and real nazis.
