Sonoma hotel - Ledson or Fairmont?
We are considering the Farimont Mission Sonoma or the Ledson Hotel. They are both very different and we are leaning toward the Ledson as we won't be renting a car and would like to be able to walk to restaurants/shopping. Any suggestions on tour companies for wine tours would be helpful too...

I stayed at the Sonoma Mission Inn last year and was really disappointed. For the price, the rooms were very small and the inn seemed a little old and dated. The spa, on the other hand, was fantastic. Can't comment on Ledson hotel, but I had dinner tonight with some friends and they loved their tour at Ledson winery.

Hi KellyRow. I have stayed at the Sonoma Mission Inn and not to be offensive to Lori S, it was actually very nice. Unfortunately, I think Lori S is correct in her assessment as the hotel seems to give sporadic service and get either really good or really bad comments from people. We loved our stay and the room (a Mission Suite) was really nice; having said that, we plan to stay there again in a few weeks - I'll let you know what happens! Re: cars: The SMI has a shuttle service to Sonoma until about 7pm and then Sonoma also has a Taxi service (believe it or not) - it cost us about $5 to come back to the hotel after dinner... Also, you might consider "The Lodge at Sonoma" a nice property - it is about a mile from the Plaza but they too have shuttle service - only reason I'm not staying there is that SMI gave us a really nice special!

PS: Forgot to mention a tour company called "Vintage Chrome Tours." The wbesite is www.vintagechrometours.com and they do a great job. They pick you up in a vintage car of your choice and take you to some great wineries! We have used several tour companies over the years and this one is the best if you like the idea of being toured around in an old rag top car and going to obscure wineries off the beaten path.

Thank you! I have also heard some mixed reviews about the Fairmont - only great reviews about the Ledson but I wasn't sure how easy it would be to get from the SMI to town. Anyone have recommendations on shuttle service from SF airport to Sonoma?

Hi again. Not sure if you've already booked or not but wanted to give you an update. We just spent 5 fantasitic days at the Somoma Mission Inn. From our check in to the end of our trip, everything was just great; the concierge, the bell staff, the restaurant staff, the bar staff; all were great; the room was wonderful (Mission Suite with a big beautiful balcony). So, I can only give you our experience, but it was a definite yes.

Hi kellyrow, if you go to the SFO website which is www.flysfo.com you will see the information for the shuttle bus from SFO to Sonoma. Enjoy your time in beautiful Sonoma!

Hi there -
Not sure if you've already booked your accommodations, but my husband and I just got back from Sonoma and stayed at the Gaige House Inn in Glen Ellen. We absolutely loved it - fabulous rooms and breakfast as well as being extremely peaceful and relaxing.

Most of the rooms at the Fairmont are nicely appointed, but small. It is a lovely place, but it always reminds me of a sanitarium with all of these people kind of "floating" through the grounds dressed in white terrycloth robes....and it is eerily quite. the spa is great....but SOOOO quiet.
