Hotels in or near Sonoma

We are attending a wedding in Sonoma in August and are looking for a reasonably-priced hotel. Everything we've looked into seems pretty expensive. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Laurie

We stayed at the Sonoma Hotel, right on town square last fall. I don't remember exactly what we paid per night, but it was under $200. It's a little "rustic" but clean and it was fine for us and the 2 other couples we were with.

The Sonoma Valley Inn is nice, a Best Western property. ***kim***

Do try the El Pueblo Inn. It is about a mile from the Plaza and is very attractive with two buildings with gardens in between and a pool. It is reasonable.

The Sonoma Hotel, on the Plaza, is also reasonable, but, as mentioned rather "rustic". We had a terrible room there and have not gone back.

Just wondering what was "terrible" about your room? I am pretty picky and I did not mind the Sonoma HOtel at all. It wasn't great but our stay there was not a disappointment.

August is still off-season in sonoma, so I'd see what kind of "deal" you can get at the Sonoma Mission Inn or MacArthur Place. There's a very nice hotel right on the Plaza called the El Dorado Hotel (www.eldoradosonoma.com). The restaurant on the first floor is outstanding.
There's also the Renaissance Lodge and a few nice B&Bs a few blocks on the east side of the Plaza (the nice side!), but can't remember the names.

"August is still off-season in sonoma". I've lived in this area for 30 years and that's news to me.

Off-season would be more like January.
If you are unable to find what you need in Sonoma, you could look for a motel/hotel in either Novato or Petaluma. Those towns are only 30 minutes away.

Wow I looked up The Lodge at Sonoma and the rooms are way spendy or not available for weekends in August. I stayed in a cottage room not long ago and it was like $189 but that was the real off season, February.

The back up is Sonoma Valley Inn whihc seems booked for all weekends in August but you can call to see.

If you want something different the Beltane Ranch which includes breakfast is reasonably priced:

Lots of accomodations in August are so expensive and unavailable.

I, too, was rather taken aback by the "August is still off season in Sonoma." Well, in any event, "reasonably priced" and "Wine Country" are not generally terms used together but here goes: The Inn at Sonoma has rooms for under $200 a night most times - especially if you book early! The other comments about el Pueblo, Sonoma Valley Inn, etc. are all accurate. Otherwise, even in this economy, Wine Country either isn't affected, or they haven't awoken from their slumbers to see there is a problem. And from the looks of things, it's the former - I was in Rutherford two weekends ago and everything was booked and packed from restaurants, to wineries, to lodging. So, not to be discouraging and I hope you find a great, inexpensive place - please let us know and good luck!

This past March we stayed at the Inn on the Plaza in Healdsburg, it is a sister property to Inn at Sonoma, a 3 Sisters venue, they are very nice hotels and pay attention to detail. ***kim***
