I don't think there's enough to do at Solomon's Island for a day and a half, unless your accomodations are there and you just want to take it easy. It's a very small community, picturesque, but not a lot of action of any kind. A couple of antique/craft stores, a few not-so-great restaurants. Oh yes, the only restaurant at Solomon's Island that sells blue crabs is Catamaran's. We found that out the hard way last month. And, after we were seated and had ordered, found out that they were OUT of blue crabs. There are plenty of other places on the bay with much better food and entertainment options.

Actually "Dry Dock" restaurant has good crab cakes and the "tiki" bar" has good drinks and there's another place with the waiters wearing tuxes and there's a Captain Seaweed or something - it's not bad. They have a real nice maritime museum. And if you're driving you can stop on the way down at a place called White Sands and go into "Vera's" The place used to be real unique.

I stopped by the White Sands once on my way to Solomons Island. It was a big pink cinderblock building with plastic palm trees and a blow up kiddie pool in the front yard (all encompassed by a beautiful chain link fence). It was on the water and had a drive up dock, but we didn't bother to find out how the food was..........eeeekkkk!

Bowen's has fabulous crabcakes! Don't be put off by the restaurant's very humble humble looks; the crabcakes are the best! Wait till warm weather so you can eat outside overlooking the boats in the harbor.
The Holiday Inn in Solomons has rooms and a restuarant overlooking the marina.
Be sure to insist on a waterfront room.
After you eat you can stroll past the boats.. very pleasant.
Solomons is tiny, but if you are there in nice weather you can walk not only by the 6 or 8 shops, but behind the Univ. of Maryland's biological research station, which sits on a lovely waterfont site. Very pretty!
