So what's this Grocery place in NYC?

I see in the New York Times that the new Zagat survey includes in its five top restaurants in NYC, a place called The Grocery. Any comments?

PS: I believe the other four were LeBernardin, Grammercy Tavern, Peter Luger, and Gotham Bar and Grill.

Haven't been but between the article in the Times and the 28 Zagat rating, it may be untouchable for a while! I feel bad for the local regulars.

Sorry, I was doing that post from memory and confusing the statement about the top seven (The Grocery was number 7) and a comment about how it could outrank some of the others.
So from the TOPS list, scratch Gotham and Grammercy. The others in the top seven are Nobu, Jean Georges, Bouley, and Daniel. Le Bernardin ranked tops, Peter Luger was number three.

Patrick-
The Grocery has been touted as one of the best restaurants in Brooklyn. It's on Smith Street in the Cobble Hill area. I haven't tried it yet but now I think I must (#7? Wow!). I hear it doesn't break the bank either.

Not to be confused with Arlene Grocery on Stanton Street in the LES. Great little bar with a fun heavy metal and punk rock karaoke night.

The Grocery is on Smith Street in Carroll Gardens. A small neighborhood restaurant, its ascension in Zagat's is featured in today's New York Times (front page).

Anyone who read the Times front-page article should also read the food critic's review of The Grocery also in today's Times. He puts the restaurant's high Zarat rating in a proper perspective.

My son found this restaurant around two years ago and he invited me for dinner at the time. Small, unpretentious and very reasonably priced with well prepared food, it is certainly worth a visit. Now, of course, the place will be jammed.

Howard, I read that also and his comparison is right on.
But to be fair, even the owners were astounded at being in the list.
It really was unfair put them in the same catagory as the gastronomic temples.
