I loved the entire show, and I'm REALLY excited that I have tickets to both 'Long Day's Journey' and 'Hairspray' for our trip in July -- now if I can only find something else that we can get halfprice TKTS for on Friday or Saturday, when we're taking our 17-yr-old son & his friend. Actually, I'm thinking about Def Poetry Jam -- I loved what I saw of that show last night, and I think they would enjoy it. Does anyone know if TKTS has these, and if it's still running in late July? Personally, I thought Vanessa Redgrave was incredibly elegant and can't wait to see her onstage!

What fun. Yes, I watched because I think I was beginning to get psychotic from watching too many Trading Spaces and HGTV shows in a row.
I agree that the Tony's were SO much more classy than the Oscars. In fact I even like the wierd old lady with the wierd eyebrows. Why? because you never see anyone who looks OLD anymore...everyone has had botox or an extreme makeover..so I liked the old broad.
Sara J's dress- UGLY... I don't care that she's got the bod... she usually looks good but this was a big Glamour Don't.
I am also jealous of the NYC dwellers who can go see all the great shows. If I could go right now I'd see Gypsy, Hairspray, and everything else. I've haven't been to Broadway for years.and years... saw Pippen with Ben Veereen and Promises Promises...

Thought the show was great.=D> Loved SJP's dress. Twyla walked like she'd just gotten off a horse. Never HEARD of Hugh Jackman before last night but he's a cutey 
with not a bad voice. Nathan probably in LA working on his new series (couldn't be worse than the last try).
Bernadette was great but still, IMO, miscast. Worst dress of the night, the green thingy worn by the theater wing lady followed closely by Vanessa R. Most elegant of the night, Marisa Tomei-WOW!

I always love the Tony Awards and thought last night's show was especially good. I saw Hairspray last year and it is just so much fun. I highly recommend Man of La Mancha, especially if you liked Brian Stokes Mitchell singing The Impossible Dream. It is a very powerful and moving show, and he and the rest of the cast are fabulous.

A couple of years ago I saw Twyla Tharpe's company in performance. Afterwards she came out on stage for a Q and A. She had the same demeanor she exhibited upon winning the Tony. She was pretty unsmiling and was very serious in her responses. But I love her work so if she doesn't want to smile so be it.
One other observation: I thought Bernadette Peters looked shocked that she didn't win. Her performance last night was wonderful.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who noticed Twyla's ungraceful walk to the stage.
And the older lady's eyebrows were a hoot! Did anyone else think that she didn't want to be picked up and carried out? I thought she may have wanted to say something else.
Of course, my absolutely favorite acceptance was the one from the composer's of Hairspray! Bravo!
Most moving performance was definately Bernadette!

Hugh Jackman's hair is long for a movie role he is currently doing. I for one thought he did a great job. He will be starring on Broadway in October in a show about Peter Allen.

For the record, Lynn Redgrave was in the movie "Georgy Girl" that came out in the 60's and was the basis for the recent stage show. Have to say, the age difference between her and Vanessa was a bit painful to see last night.
Was, also, very impressed with Marisa Tomei's regal bearing -- like her more with each movie she's in, and In the Bedroom was amazing. I would have loved to see the Salome performance.
Twyla Tharp comes down to Durham for the American Dance Festival (http://www.americandancefestival.org) each year, and I sat behind her one year for a premier of one work. She does indeed smile under the right circumstances, esp. when she's shmoozing with dancers she loves, but her walk last night did indeed suggest an injury. I loved the dress, though, as out-of-sync as it was. Hope she's ok, and what she did with Movin' Out was magic -- I'd been expecting a shallow feel-good jitterbug doo-wop fest and got an actual story with a wonderful variety of dance styles (even on point, who knew?).

Mclaurie, I'll have to disagree with yo about Bernadette Peters. Not only do we feel she was not miscast, but also that she actually added a new dimension to the characterization--a sexuality and sensualty--which we felt was definitely a valid interpretation.

I think Vanessa Redgrave looked older than her years, a long time ago. She has definitely lived a varied and full life! And look at the daughters she has!

, X-Men really isn't a quality film for a serious actor and that awful flop with Meg Ryan that I have blocked out the name of..Leopold?
