We will be in NYC over Memorial Day weekend and would live to go to Smorgasburg on Saturday or Sunday. Any insider tips? It seems the Saturday market is a little bigger than the Sunday market. Also, we have not spent a lot of time in Brooklyn but are interested in exploring further. What are the main streets in the different areas of Brooklyn? We are foodies in the sense that we like good, local foods, artisan shops, local restaurants, etc. Any recommendations for a mini-food tour or good walking route while we are in the area?

I do not know where Smorgasburg is located in Brooklyn. The best streets for stores are Bedford Ave in Williamsburg and Smith Street in Cobble Hill.

Brunch is a religion for some but Memorial Day weekend might be good because will be leaving the city.

Brooklyn is huge - more than 2 million people and in one day you can see only small parts of it. Not familiar with Smorgasburg (is that how it's spelled?)

Smorgasburg is a part of Brooklyn Flea
It is located in East River Park on Saturdays and apparently in a new location at Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 5 on Sundays.

IMDonehere - Thanks for input on Bedford Street and Smith Street. That is what I was looking for. What are the main shopping/streets of interest to a tourist in the different areas like Williamsburg, Cobble Hill, Prospect Park, etc.

Any other thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have been to a fair at the East River Park, a niece was displaying the clothes she designs. There was a pretty good selection but was a tad expensive.

One of my favorite streets is Atlantic Ave down my Brooklyn Heights. They have stores like Sahadi's with mid-eastern spices and Damascus Bakery with mid-eastern pastries and pita. If you do not have a mid-eastern area in your home town this is most interesting.

Smorgasburg is great fun and you'll sample some good food (try the fried anchovies).

Only a few blocks walk away you can visit the Brooklyn Brewery, take a short tour and sample their excellent beer. http://brooklynbrewery.com/verify

Go early - it gets packed. The Bolivian tent is one of the best things I've had in NYC.
