Sir Francis Drake in San Francisco
I have friends who are staying at the Sir Francis Drake this November. They want us to stay there for a night or two, though I have seen mixed reviews on this property. Has anyone stayed there since they finished their renovations in March 07? Also, if you have any recommendations within a block or two in the same price range ($150.- or less), that would be great. Thanks!

Hi trippinkpj, you might want to check out the Villa Florence which is just a few doors south of Union Sq. It was a Kimpton Hotel but Kimpton recently sold it. I haven't stayed there since Kimpton sold it to an investment group in Marin but I have talked to Anna Jones of the Villa Florence and she said "everything is still the same". I have always liked this hotel and of course the location.

Hi trippinkpj
I was at the Sir Francis Drake for four nights end of June 2007, 3 weeks before that it was four nights at the Crowne Plaza across the street 3 weeks before that was the old Ramada down by the civic center. I rate the Sir Francis Drake at the top, rooms were a little small but I was just sleeping there. If I was going to stay for fun I would go back to the Sir Francis Drake.

Hi there tippinkpj, let us know how you like the Villa Florence. BTW, I only eat two meals a day and consequently I have always loved the breakfast at Kuleto's which is attached to the Villa Florence. Their hosted wine hour is always nice too.
