Shore Excursions

We are doing the NCL 7 day cruise. Two days in Maui, two in Kauai and 1 in Hilo and 1 in Kona. I do not want to do the ships excursions and we are renting cars in all ports except Kona. Any suggestions for an itinerary at our stops?

On Maui, make sure to go to the Lahaina, a quaint waterfront shopping village. I would also venture further, going to Kapaulua. The beach here is spectacular.
I would not miss going to Old Lahaina Luau in Maui.

In Hilo, go to Volcano National Park. It's only about 30 minutes from Hilo.

We just returned and had a rental car everyday with the exception of Kona. (Exactly as yourself.) Yes do the Volvano national park in Hilo. On the way there is an Orchid factory store. It was worth seeing, beautiful flowers. There is also Rainbow Falls in Hilo. In Kauai, my favorite island of them all. You can drive to the Canyon. It is a windy road, be careful. It is the best way to see the canyon with the exception of a helicopter ride, which we did do. If it is affordable I highly recommend it on this island. Believe you won't regret it. We used air kauai and it is my best memory of this vacation. Also in Kauai there are many beaches and beautiful tropical drives or hikes to take depending on your interests. You can also go Kayaking down by Hanalei. Go the lighthouse it is an awesome view. This is a primitive island and only several roads so it seemed to me.

Kona if you like to snorkel there is a beach you can snorkel right close to the ship. a trolly will take you for $5.00 rd trip. Depending on what time your plane leaves to return home you can book a tour in Oahu and see Pearl harbor if you like. Squeeze it in if you can. Enjoy!!

In Maui, consider renting a car and driving to Hana; it takes about 4 hours - one way - do not be deceived by the mileage shown on the map! It is a gorgeous drive - but only if they have had a wet Spring - ask first!
