Shopping in Chicago
Hello. Can the Chicago shopping experts recommend some areas with locally owned ladies clothing boutiques?
We will have limited time to shop so I prefer to target one or two areas. We have all the big names (Nordies, Saks, Macy's, Neiman's, etc) at home and we won't be spending on the Chanel level. We aren't into vintage (if we wore it in 1970, we prefer to savor the memories). We do want stylish clothing suitable for the over fifty set (ie, no baby doll strapless sundresses).
Thanks for your suggestions!

I would say go to Wicker Park/Bucktown area, but the boutiques there kinda lean younger than fifty. There are a lot of shops there, though, so I'd still take a look. And if you find nothing, there are some decent eats there so it wouldn't be a waste of time.

In Old Town (about 1600 N.Clark St. you'll find some interesting shops as well as Welles St. a block away. Then you can stroll over to Division and have a drink at P.J. Clarke's. This is the Gold Coast area famous for its nightlife.

No unique recommendations, but I would definitely suggest you check out the Macy's (old Marshall Fields) in the loop. The building is lovely and the clothing was very different than our Macy's in NJ. Also, sort of across the street is a Nordstroms Rack (outlet store)...

You would probably like Armitage Avenue in Lincoln Park (take the L Brown Line to Armitage stop) both East and West of L are unique clothing, accesory and gift stores, like everywhere more for the younger set, but nice atmosphere for browsing, and not as edgy as Bucktown or Wicker Park.
