Kathymt: Filene's is on Boylston St now, no longer in it's "famous" location in downtown crossing - there is also one in newton, watertown and they are slated to open in peaobody, ma also -
My opinion: not what it used to be - more like a Marshall's or TJ - which doesn't mean you can not find a bargain , especially if you know your clothes/fabrics/etc and also your clothing lines (designer/ready to wear/etc)
you might find a true bargain - harder today also with all the mark downs, sales, and mass ready to wear lines -
If I was already in town, and going to the Marshalls on Boylston St (which I think is a good Marshalls) I'd hop over to Filene's, but I wouldn't drive an hour to go there.

The point I was trying to make,
is that the Filene's Basement on Bolyston still has some upscale brands, which Marshalls & TJ Maxx don't (in response to OP's question). And since the OP is visiting Boston, chances are she won't have a car. It's a lot easier to visit the Filene's Basement by T than a Nordstrom Rack.

Thanks for all your replies. Your right, I won't have a car while I'm in Boston. It sounds like Feline's is your average designer clothing discount store and nothing I should put on my "I deffinitely have to go there" list.
