Shocked at high prices of hotels in Miami
I've been looking at hotels and costs to stay in South Beach for 4 nights at the end of January and am shocked at the high prices and disappointed as well as there is no way we can afford those prices. We've had online quotes of $700 per night and upwards! That's a heck of a lot of money for a bed and a shower.
It seems most hotels are booked out for our dates or way too dear so we'll have to rethink our plans. We have flights booked from London so will still be coming, just not staying in South Beach.
Any suggestions for decent places under $200 per night (even $200 for a hotel is a lot!). We're not really fussy as long as it's clean and in an OK location.
Thanks
Kay

You will be in town for the Miami Marathon which will pretty much sell out a good part of the city. Also, that is peak season AND the city will just start selling out that week for the Superbowl.
In other words, you picked a really expensive week in already peak tourist season.
My suggestion is to try either Key West or Palm Beach or stay in Miami near the end of your stay.

Yep...bad time for Miami.
Super bowl is Feb 4 and the marathon is Jan 28. Tens of thousands of extra people will be there for both events.
Have you checked hotels.com or a similar website to see all available hotels in the area?

It's amazing, I checked for events in Miami - or thought I did!! I'm looking instead at Lauderdale by the Sea which looks nice and laidback. I suppose we can just visit South Beach for the day.
Thanks for your help.

Hi, has anyone stayed at the Sea Spray Inn in Lauderdale by the Sea? I have contacted a few places for our stay in Jan/Feb but not getting many replies. Maybe because of the weekend.
The Sea Spray Inn looks nice and is a good price but can't find any reviews.
Anyone?
Thanks

Our family stayed at Newport Beachside Resort in Sunnyisles http://www.newportbeachside.com
We too were very shocked at the high cost of rooms but found this "resort" to be fine. The rooms were average, the beach was fabulous!
Hope this helps!

Thanks but this place has no rooms available either. We are getting really desperate, cannot find anywhere to stay in the Miami/Ft Lauderdale/Lauderdale by the Sea area at all. If we didn't already have flights booked we would go somewhere else. Not sure what to do now, keep looking I suppose.

I had a similar problem...cruising out of Miami on Super Bowl Sunday, big fun! We are flying to Orlando (cheap) then driving to W Palm Beach where we found rooms through out Priority Club membership at the Holiday Inn Express. The next morning we'll drive to Miami airport and take shuttle. You could also consider driving across the state and staying on one of the nice gulf beaches...St Pete, Naples, Sanibel, etc.

Thanks everyone, I tried about 14 places all together, including the two suggested by Stephanie. We were considering the Naples side of Florida instead but eventually got two offers of a room (one was Driftwood at Hollywood) and booked with the Shore Haven Resort at Lauderdale by the Sea. So glad to have somewhere to stay, I was quite worried.
This is the best forum! Thanks everyone.
