Sheraton Yankee Clipper Ft. Lauderdale
I got this hotel through Priceline and at first I was really excited and then I read the reviews on another website and my hopes for a great vacation were crushed. There is no going back so I have to make the best of this situation. My main concern is with all of the comments about a mildew smell in the hotel. For those people who have stayed here, did you like it and where was your room located? Is the mildew worse on the lower floors? What was your favorite and worse thing about this hotel?

When I bid FLL Priceline, all my cruising pals told me to bid 4 star or risk getting this property which most consider two star anymore. I have heard that the staff is good here, and the tiki hut bar is fun. I think they filmed the movie "Analyze This" at this location. I hear it's been sold and will be rebuilt as well (that comes from a friend who lives there and sells yachts there) It does have a great location, so if you don't spend a lot of time in your room it's okay. Other than that, the property has not been renovated or refurbished recently and evidently won't be. I guess your best bet is to request another room if yours is disgusting.

The Yankee Clipper is very, very old. It has been around and very well known for a long time. The location is the best aspect and the beach is also very nice. I don't doubt that it would smell of mildew. The humid environment coupled with poor a\c would really do the trick. Keep asking for a nice room until you get it!!!! Tell them you will go to the BBB if they don't do something.

Stayed there a year ago. This is an old location, with an old beach aroma to it. It's in the right place. South end of FLL Beach, short drive or a long walk to Las Olas and the nighttime cafe district. Often the price is right. But, if you're looking for a fresh, new room; don't go to the Yankee Clipper.

The movie, Analyze This shot one scene here in the bar. The rest was shot in Miami at the Fountainbleu. The bar in this hotel is a hoot. Bar faces the glass sided pool. You can get some pretty interesting views from here, if the unsuspecting guest is not discreet.

I thought the hotel was very dated 12 years ago when I looked at it for a conference site. I am surprised it hasn't been razed. The location is one of the best in Ft.L. HG

My husband and I stayed there about 5 years ago. Most of the hotels in FLL on the beach are dated, smell of bleach and other cleansing products. The location cannot beat. There is a new best western Pelican Beach hotel. It was a small place, then they re-built some of the buildings. We have also stayed there. For the money though I am sure you will be o.k. The best part was the hotel we were in was right on the beach. We slept well and the place was clean, just old and dated as most of them are along A1A.

That is great. They needed some "Trumps" building along there. I know I walked in and out of a few hotels and refused to stay in several of them. The same situation in Ft. Myers. As I had stated it has been awhile since we in FLL. Perhaps 5 years.

I almost stayed here, but was able to book at another location. However, I was told by a friend to definitely join the Starwoods Preferred Guest program, which was free. Then, present your Preferred Guest card to receive a room upgrade at the Yankee Clipper. This might be worth a try.

I stayed there for four nights a couple of years ago. As other people have mentioned, the decor is dated. My room was fine for what I paid (well under $100 IIRC, special deal). Did not smell of mildew - the beach was great and pool area was serviceable.

I'm feeling much better about this, so thanks to all the replies. I think I've figued out that I need to try to get a room in the building on the beach. Hopefully I won't be in the room much anyway. I get the impression that this hotel has the best location in Ft. Lauderdale so that is a definite plus. And if it's really bad I'll just go hang out over at the Marriott for awhile.
