SF special dinner for 70 birthday

Hey there,
I am looking for a very special place to have dinner in S.F. in Feb. - My Mom will be 70 and will be in SF for business so I am flying up from Orange County to meet her and take her to dinner...she loves all food (she is a bit of what some would call a "Foodie") and likes the "nicer" things in life - looking for something special. We are staying at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis...
Thanks so much!!!
Best,
Dawn

Too many choices! We took my mom for her 90th to Perbacco. They made her feel very special.

We're meeting friends for dinner at Big 4 on top of Nob Hill in 2 weeks. I would not call it a big "foodie" place - but high on "old world" atmosphere. I'm very close to 70 and I appreciate quiet "white tablecloth" places more than the loud "minimalist/industrial chic" restaurants that seem to be the "norm" these days - with all the techies in The City. http://www.big4restaurant.com/

Kokkari is nice also - but a long walk away. https://kokkari.com/

Perbacco as MichelleY mentioned is a good choice - if you like Italian. It can be a bit noisy - depending on the table you get. http://www.perbaccosf.com/

The dinner is Tuesday. I currently have 3 reservations and my mom will decide. Gary Danko's, Perbacco and Scoma's...

I'd pass on Scoma. Meh.

Knowing your mom, I'd go with Gary Danko.

I also agree with the others but I'd add another to the list - Bellota.

SF - was it noisy when you were there? There were 4 of us - all "seniors". The food was great, but we could not hear each other because of the noise everywhere. We even asked for the quietest table.

The dinner was Tuesday and the food was excellent - the service was mehhhhh... a few misses in that area and as Stu mentioned the noise level got exceptionally high at the peak times... my Stepdad is going to be 75 and has some hearing challenges and it was difficult for him.

I think my Mom really enjoyed it and that she felt special that I flew up from Orange county for the evening. Thanks for the feedback!
