San Fran help, please: restaurant for 15-20 for business dinner meeting

One of my bosses will be in San Francisco next May to meet with 15-20 colleagues from around the world. I need to find a restaurant near the Moscone Center (walking distance) that would have at least a semi-private (or at least quiet) room/space, where they have room to spread out papers as well as have a nice meal, probably up to 3 hours.

Their budget would be roughly $100 per person, to include meal and room charge (if any) and gratuity. I'm wondering if that's not feasible - need to budget more $$? Any type of cuisine is fine - no preferences there.

I have searched other San Fran threads here, looked into hotel spaces (too much $$!) and Googled San Fran restaurants until I'm so confused I'm ready to hand my boss a picnic basket and a blanket and send them all to Union Square Park.

Help? Any suggestions are very much appreciated!

The restaurant is beautiful and the food is fabulous. You'd have to check with them to see if you can do it for $100/person. Really wonderful restaurant and its a block from Moscone.

Thank you, sf! This looks wonderful. The dinner menu looks very nice and the prices look to be much more reasonable than I would have expected. I'll check this one out.

Where are they going AFTER the meal? This is walking distance from the center - although not really close. But, if these folks are coming in for a convention, chances are they will be staying at hotels nearer the restaurant - or between the restaurant and the hotel.

I love the Grand Cafe (never mind that it's adjacent to my favorite hotel).

They have private rooms available - and I'd book my hotel stay next door at the Monaco

Fifth Floor at the Hotel Palomar on 4th & Market is about 3 blocks from the Moscone Center. I've had several wonderful meals there and they do have private dining (don't know the cost). If you are going to include alcohol (cocktails & wine) then $100 pp all in might be a bit low.

Much less expensive than Fifth Floor (which will surely run you more than $100 a person), you could try Lark Creek Steak, which is on the top floor of San Francisco Centre (it's a very nice shopping center, and the restaurant is quite good) or Straits (same location).

i won't go into descriptions but these are all places i have taken clients to on assorted occasions.

www.duccasf.com - this is the closest at 5 mins away

www.roysrestaurant.com

townhallsf.com

www.chezpapasf.com - the restaurant at mint plaza not the bistro

www.coco500.com - this one is the farthest out

I love Coco500 and was going to suggest it, but I don't think they have a private room (the entire restaurant is very small).

Hello iowagirl. Here is the website for the Villa Florence which is just up on Powell from Market.

http://www.villaflorence.com/

I am sure the food would be from the Kuleto's which is attached to the Villa Florence. They do have meeting rooms so just another thought for you.

Thank you all! I'll start doing some emailing and calling around.

starrs: nobody has hotel reservations yet, but all will be fairly close to Moscone and Union Square Park. They'll be going to dinner after a meeting at Moscone, then back to their hotels. I'm only worried about getting them to the dinner - they're on their own to get back to their hotels.

I was pretty suspicious that $100/person wasn't going to cut it in downtown San Fran.

Bob - they each might have a drink or two, but that would be it. I'm thinking the gratuity/minimum charge will be the killer.

Just quickly checking the links you all kindly provided, looks like I have plenty of wonderful options. Thank you again!

Luce, the restaurant at the Intercontinental, has a private room that "seats 14 comfortably."

The location is good, next door to the Moscone. http://www.intercontinentalsanfranci...sco-dining.asp

Ooh - Luce looks beautiful.

Deb and abranz - LOL! I told my boss that very same thing - if he'd spring for a plane ticket, I'd be more than happy to fly out and do some scouting in person! He declined.
