SF-hotel in mission district

just back from weekend in SF, we always want to eat etc in mission area but can never find a place to park. would love to stay there but have never seen any hotels. am surprised none of the boutique hotel chains haven't rehabbed an old building. any suggestions?

thanks!

the Mission is "up and coming" (and has been that way for the 30+ years since I first looked at buying a house in that neighborhood). It's a residential neighborhood, and a tourist destination only for the restaurants. My point is, there aren't too many people like you who would actually want to stay there.

why don't you take BART to the mission when you visit? Or BART to and a cab back?
The Mission is a residential area and not a lot of old buildings that wouldn't need extensive rehab and seismic retrofit.

The only hotels in the Mission are SRO's--I suppose eventually someone might turn one of these into a more upscale hotel, like what happened to the SRO's near Moscone, but there is no incentive to do so in the Mission yet (no major tourist attraction, convention center). In addition the Mission is a hot bed for activists so it would be tough to do so. Although I think there is a hostel on Mission St. itself

You might take a look at Parker Guest House on Church, which is 2 blocks from Mission Dolores next time. parkerguesthouse.com

Hi sf7307, regarding SRO's, here is a good description.

Parker Guesthouse is a great find. I've stayed there twice and really liked it. Altho it is marketed to LGBTs, the crowd has always been fairly mixed.

MikeT--a friend's mother and father stayed there and really loved it, that's how I heard about it. I figured based on it's location between the Castro and the Mission it was probably gay friendly, but based on their experience it is definitely straight friendly also!!!!

BTW sf3707 have you lived/worked in SF long enough to hear about the International Hotel? That was an SRO.

I have -- I've been here since 1973. In fact, I walked by recently -- have you noticed, it's finally under construction?

My mistake - the site I was looking at was not the old I-hotel, which has already been rebuilt.

I think after many battles it was built as housing for seniors--I think you might have seen the construction associated with the old Chinatown Y.
